If you believe that UPI article then what about the one says China's submarine force is a threat? How is it a threat when another article mentions that Chinese submarines don't leave port and very few go out on patrols. Or the one that says China doesn't have the crew to man all those submarines? Another contradiction from the Western media. It's even more gullible to believe everything in the media especially when written by people who obviously don't pay attention to the subject and can't keep the most simplist information correct. It's much like some of new people that come in here and act like they're experts then make statements like, "China has no AWACS whatsoever!"

Well I Like to look for a bit of balance, although i am genuinely impressed with the improvement of chinese weapon systems, we could get to carried away with our success and miss the next quantum leap in weapon advancement. Ideally i would like to access "Janes"for a informed unbiased opinion but cant afford it, therefore im just bouncing alternative sources on this site to test the writers credibility hope you understand and have patience wiv me.
I would would not like to see the chinese military make the same mistake as the chinese car manufactures, in thinking their vechiles eg THe 4wD Landwind or something by that name,was good enough for the western market, but only to be severly embarrased
or another eg The Japanese zero dominating the early pacfic theatre of WW2, but within 16 months it was dog tucker.

as for your comment about chinese r the best reverse enginners...... well the trouble with that is that one never fully appreciates the reason why a certain approch was adopted, etc etc

Its stupid of me thinking that if newspapers and magazines are going to write artices of military maters, they would would employ someone who kew what they are talking about, and not just interview their word processors

The only thing I kkow about Chinese MBTs was when along time ago I read on some site, it might have been on this one, that chinese MBTs lacked some stabalizer thingy which meant that they could not fire accurately on the move.If its true I sure hope theyve solved that one. So when I read that UPI article which stated that China lacked a MBT that was as good as the other powers, I searched the web and wasnt able to come up with any answers.. THere was a utube film showing a brief clip of the beast from the east, and refering to it as the type99, but no specs or comments on how it stacks.. Is this Tank just an improved 96/98? or a new tank all round

I can't remember there is a funny list about China will buy weapon from Russia in the sit that transfer foreign midea said, that include T-90,Sovemony destroyer,S-300....
that list supposed many years ago.
China just bought and arrived several set S-300MPU last year,this time China would not buy S-300 any more.
what I think China will buy some engines,maybe some helicopters? but China can manufacture many kind of copters,many helicopter projects that are on going,how about Mig-17?It seems to have been domestic,China ordered 150 Russian large transport planes,but Russian didn't completed on time and wants to rise price,said that the US dollar's depreciation, the two sides are negotiating.
The same issues have emerged in India and Russia, the Russian aircraft carrier modified to India failed to be completed on time and raising fares. India also dissatisfied with another sale of Russian weapons and refuses to transfer technology, last year had been 2 billion US dollar in orders for weapons that India gave to US.

China type96 tank is old model,type98 tank is new model,they are complete different,type99 tank improved from type98.you can view our forum in land warfare page,there are 96/Tank thread and 98/99 tank thread.

Newspapers can do very stupid things. One cannot underestimate the stupidity of media and its writers at times. The article you pointed out has no basis whatsover, and the sales cannot be supported by any evidence what so ever. And yes we know what we are talking about.

Interesting how all these rehashed old themes about China's dependence on Russia and other foreign technology comes out like a flash flood after the initial article of this thread comes out. Smells like panic and denial.

If the author of the UPI aritcle knew so much about China's military strength and weaknesses, then US government wouldn't time after time be begging Chinese government to be transparent about China's military development. Something to ponder upon!

Im beginning to thinks thats is just for public consumption.Sometime back a poster sggested that the US bootss up the Quality of chinas armed services just to get more money.They use to do it to the Russians.. Actually perhaps we should regard it as a compliment
