Don't think there are any other weapons fitted on 2901 other than the main gun for defense. It will make her looks like a warship in coast guard paint if you add more lethal/offensive weapons considering her tonnage. That will defeat the purpose of the ship's desgin as a non-threaten but long endurance law enforcement coast guard ship.
But that's a nice upgrade for the Chinese coast guard force and give them more flexibility and presence in the disputed area without using big military warships. 2901 can hang around Diaoyu islands or the spratly islands for much longer time without needing other support vessels for resupply. Small coast guard ships can't nearly sustain as long as this big girl. Maybe she can take a spin around Persian Gulf for anti-privacy mission in the future too.
I am not talking about large weapons.
I would be talking like a couple of those 30mm auto cannons they have on the Type 056, and perhaps some 12.7mm mounts typically found on Coast Guard vessels. Such weapons would not at all be out of character for armed Coast Guard vessels.
I expect these vessels, with their long range and sustainment capability, will ultimately be used by the PRC for long range escorts and patrol of critical economic oriented vessels and sea lanes.
Similar to how the Japanese Coast Guard uses their two Shikishima Class PLH 9,300 ton Coast Guard vessels.

Financial savings isn't the main issue for China's anti-piracy patrols. It is the opportunity it provides for PLAN to practice long distance deployments under a benign banner and not having the circus media flip out.
