found an overview of CCG Ships on globalsecurit.org
anyone an idea what the third column is for? (249 F; 14 F,....) ??
i think its:
1st column: current CCG ship number
2nd column: former unit name
3rd column: ???
4th column: former detachment of the ship
can anyone help?

this is not Coast Guard !Haixun 09, a new 10,000-ton class Coast Guard vessel.
its Maritime Safety Administration, MSA a civil organisation of the ministry of transport for ship inspection, port supervision, nautical safety, marine enviroment protection and hydrographic service. The vessels and crew are unarmed!
o.k. this is Coast Guard an armed branch of China Peoples Armed Police under command of the Central Military Commission.
By the way this ship is not similar, its much smaller.
Every ship can be armed if you wish.
Helos & boats/ boarding personnel it'll carry will be armed anyway, even if the ship itself isn't armed.
I always wonder what is the purpose of such large coast guard vessels, and my theory is that they can be used to patrol overseas sea lanes, such as around Africa for example, and would be able to assist in large scale evacuation of Chinese nationals in troubled areas. Another kind of mission would be for search and rescue of passengers in a lost airliner or cruise ship in the deep ocean area.
