Asked for comment, Pentagon spokeswoman Lt. Col Monica Matoush told the Daily Report on Wednesday: "We detected a launch on May 13 from within China. The launch appeared to be on a ballistic trajectory nearly to geosynchronous Earth orbit. We tracked several objects during the flight, but did not observe the insertion of any objects into orbit and no objects associated with this launch remain in space."

The place where I got this says it's not a SAM. Seems to go higher in altitude than videos I've seen if it's like an HQ-9.

The elusive DF-41 ICBM is mentioned by name as expected within the next five years. References to a missile known as DF-41 has been seen on and off for the past two decades, but disappeared when the DF-31A appeared instead. The latest DOD report does not mention the DF-41 but states that, “China may also be developing a new road-mobile ICBM, possibly capable of carrying a multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV).” (Emphasis added).

AFGSC also predicts that China will field a new nuclear warhead within the next five years. MIRV would probably require a new and smaller warhead but it could potentially also refer to the payload for the JL-2.

Do these inflatable decoys actually work? I would imagine that with the high resolution imaging, thermal imaging, radar on satellites and aircraft etc. these days that an inflatable decoy isn't going to fool these technologies.

During the Kosovo War NATO fighters hit even what they suspected were decoys because they had to be sure. So it does work especially since a lot of Serb armor actually survived at the end of the conflict.
