There's no way that's real, wtf? A single M795 155mm shell has half that much...

Unless they've created a wizard conventional filling why are they making them so comically small? The SM-3 now this.
Yes seriously, LM's AGM-183A (the one that failed in test 3 times in a roll) has a 22kg warhead.

How does it supposedly attain Mach 20 with a range of only 1600km, to my knowledge the DF-17 is only like Mach 10 and the Avangard is claimed Mach 20 right? And if true I feel like even the kinetic energy would be much greater than the punch of that firecracker warhead...

Edit: Yup, looks like no magical fillings, just

doing more to neuter the US military than any foreign adversary ever could. I don't see the point of even deploying an HGV that weak.

To be fair, there are some high value targets which would be worth a 22kg warhead at a cost of $40 Mn.

But yes, my gut tells me this is the MIC milking it for everything they can.

The comically small warhead would be because they cannot achieve the desired speed and range with more.

Although with a hypersonic weapon, the kinetic energy is going to be so much that you could potentially get away with not needing much in the way of an explosive warhead. When 22kg of HE is so tiny it’s hardly worth adding just for the added explosive power.

Instead I think that ‘warhead’ more of a proximity fuse, designed to break the HGV up immediately before impact to help both increase the hit rate and also to maximise energy dump on target, since the missiles is almost certainly going to massively over-penetrate and waste most of the KE otherwise.
