What? How would you know how much they cost. Also they don't irradiate an area for decades, only days iirc. Just extreme high intensity radiation for a few days. It would be the only means of defeating a would be invading million man army.
Take DF-41 as a reference. The cost of the neutron bomb must be cheaper.
Worst scenario here. The lands were only radioactive for a few days. The Indians again began to move troops in small groups to infiltrate China.
But don't forget that China has huge industrial power. He can mass produce neutron bombs and mini warheads similar to Davy Crockett.
If you want to use neutron bombs, you'll really have to commit and follow up with VX gas otherwise if the war drags on the Americans and anglo affiliated nations will supply india with NBC suits; i estimate you have about a month between the first neutron bomb is dropped, reports and suits being dispatched.
In that month, the PLA should destroy utterly all indian infrastructure: ports, airports, power stations etc with suicide drones to pick off the survivors.
That could happen. But we are talking about the scenario of India invading China.
China detonated a neutron bomb on its own territory. The first aim was to prevent the infiltration of Indian troops. It also sends a political message to India. It is China's willingness to use nuclear weapons, first on Chinese territory, and if India does not stop, the next target will happen on Indian territory.
Even if the West provides NBC, the probability that the Indian leadership will continue to take the risk is very low. If India stops, China doesn't need to keep moving.

It's truly one fo the tragedies of the 21st century, seeing India turn against China out of a misguided sense of wounded national pride; tbh, i could have seen this happening a decade ago when i used to discuss political issue with indian classmates and noting how irrational they got over the '62 war.
The purpose of neutron bomb use isn't to deny territory. That's the antithesis of the point. It's to destroy formations of men. If India invades with a million man army, the point of neutron bombs isn't to deny them access to China by bombing China lol. It's to make that million man army into a zero man army. And since we're talking about Indian invasion in such a hypothetical, it would be justified use and India is unlikely to escalate further since it is the one doing the invading. If it wishes to escalate further, it guarantees annihilation of India since China's yield total is over 1000 times greater.
Indians are placing huge numbers of forces near the borders as a political show for their own people and a gesture. Their military leaders know that if those men are to be used to push through the borders, they'd be wiped out since China shouldn't waste time fighting a million man army with conventional forces. It'll solve that problem with a few neutron bombs. The armies by the border isn't useful for much more except a gesture of doing something. They have no more means of invading China and capturing territory than North Korea has means of invading Russia and capturing territory.
