I suspect it's more like development progress across the 201X prototype units. Aren't the latter/succeeding 201X units have some design changes compared to earlier/preceding 201X units?

After the LERX and intake change, mostly modification of tail boom.
The J-36 likely just had another flight today. Posted by @Rational314159 on Twitter.

Was this a fuel dump? If so the middle engine might not be dumping fuel, that’s all.
