Those guys are actual fighter pilots and they are also saying j36 is a medium bomber of some sort... the aircraft actually looks like a mini b2 if you think about it

Fighter pilots dont understand other aircraft? I figure they must at least understand other fighters... and its clear from the video they dont think the j36 is another fighter

The only combat mission these "fighter" pilots and their peers have ever performed is bombing tents in the deserts. So maybe they are bomber pilots instead.
Tbf they have had decades of experience with the f-117, B-2 and now B-21 where flat+triangle+no vertical stabiliser means bomber. Its hard to reconcile something so different from your expectations.

its important in general to decouple what fighter pilots mean as a symbol and what they really are. some veteran ww1 german pilots were skeptical when enclosed cockpits appeared during the interwar period -- they wondered how it was possible to fight well with an airplane if they couldnt feel the airspeed on their faces.
times change and new experiences are required.

That would explain the seeming lack of cockpit on J-XDS. Old school move. If it works, it works!

Exactly.

The distinction between Fighter/Attack/Bomber distinctions are becoming less useful over time, and would be largely irrelevant by 2040 or so. But the distinction between Tactical/Theatre/Strategic will become more important over time.
