If I recall correctly, there is a dedicated CG thread for digital artworks of varying quality so that the more professional flagship threads don’t risk becoming something less than professional for military matters, such as Reddit or DevianArt.

Yes, but if someone is asking whether something is a CGI because they're not sure, then that makes it slightly different.

That said, once something is confirmed to be CGI people should refrain from commenting on it in a flagship thread.

These interactions should ideally go:

Person 1: "I saw this picture, is it CGI"
Person 2: "Yes it is CGI"
NO FURTHER DISCUSSION AFTER IN THE THREAD ON THE CGI.

Things do get a bit more dicey if they are speculative CGIs of an "in emergence" project or a project that we do not yet have good pictures of, which in theory J-36 is, as one could make an argument that they are part of the constructive discussion around the details of a project.

IMO so long as discussions do not become too tedious and derail a flagship thread too much then it is tolerable, and it means people who want to enter a conversation should really exercise restraint and have a damn good reason for trying to talk about it.

Is there any particular reason why they chose to put the intakes on the bottom if this was heavily focused on all aspect stealth?

You do want to have a healthy balance between being an actual fighter and being VLO. Side intakes at the current airfoil configuration is pretty tricky, so they went with bottom intakes.

To elaborate on the "being an actual fighter" part -- if intakes were all dorsal/on the top, there would likely be deficits in feeding at higher angle of attack.

(Also, I wouldn't call these intakes as being on the "bottom" in the way that say, J-10 or Eurofighter or F-16 have bottom intakes; they're not on the dorsal side of the main fuselage body. These are more like side intakes ala F-22 or F-18.)

Pretty sure that unique airfoil configuration is designed to offset some of that airflow deficiencies during high AoA, and if they pair it with a hybrid turbofan to force spooling alongside that, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

It's basically a supersonically oriented new-age F-15: low wing loading, high T/W, can carry a large number and variety of ordinance, etc. Very much a fighter.
