A picture obtained on July 2, 2008 from the Ministry of Defence shows the frigate HMS Iron Duke and her Lynx Mk3 helicopter hovering above a powerboat in the North Atlantic Ocean. Cocaine with a street value of at least GBP 40 million (dollars 80m or euros 51m) was seized from the speedboat on June 28, 2008. Second-in-line to the throne Prince William was on board the frigate, which helped the US Coast Guard in a major drugs bust the defence ministry in London said Wednesday July 2, 2008.

D Company patrols in Kajaki Olya, a deserted village in Northern Helmand. The population fled in 2006, when British forces took the area at considerable cost.

A soldier mans a gun in Kajaki Olya. The unwillingness of the townspeople to move back frustrates Shervington, the British commander. "The whole campaign is about the people," he says. "If there are not people then we are just fighting the Taliban, which from a soldier's perspective is quite easy. But it's not winning the war."

Because the Taliban is active at night, D Company must do its most difficult work under cover of darkness.

: British Paratrooper from the 2nd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment get ready to go on patrol on July 9, 2008 in Gibraltar FOB (Forward Operating Base) in Upper Gereshk Valley ,Helmand Province, Afghanistan. On July 9, 2008 at 12:27 Afghan time, a British patrol requested fire support from a British Apache when they encountered enemy forces near FOB Gibraltar. After engaging one enemy position, the Apache fired upon another position which the crew believed to be held by enemy forces. It would appear that the British forces were mistaken for the enemy and as a result three members of the patrol were seriously wounded and six more were classified as walking wounded. The seriously wounded personnel were moved by helicopter to Camp Bastion medical facilities. Two members of personnel remain in hospital and one member of personnel has gone back to the UK for further treatment. An investigation is underway into how the incident occurred.

HELMAND PROVINCE, AFGHANISTAN - JULY 16: British Army trucks from the 13 Air Assault Support Regiment drive through the desert during an operation to deliver supplies to several British Army Forward Operating bases (FOB) in the Helmand Province on July 16, 2008 in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan. The 13th Air Assault Support Regiment provides logistic support to the multi-national force in Helmand Province. The British drivers navigate hostile desert terrain to deliver combat supplies, ammunitions, food, water and engineering equipment. During a recent operation, drivers spent 48 hours avoiding enemy forces, mine fields and indirect fire. On return to Camp Bastion, vehicles are serviced immediately for further operations leaving little recreational time for the British soldiers who work in heat
