A few pics from my visit to 'MeetYourNavy' at Portsmouth on Sunday 27th. The hottest day of the year so far and yes I did get a bit sunburnt...

These are from the deck of Illustrious, note the F-35B mock up on deck forward. I had a chat with one of the officers on deck, and he confirmed that a real Lightning will fit on her lifts, though it is a bit tight. In rough weather they would position it at an angle as it fits better that way!

I also got chatting with some of the guys in the BVT tent where the main CVF exhibition was, and the consensus was that the fight for ownership of the airgroup hadn't even started yet (SSSHH! Don't tell the crabs! They don't even know there will be a fight!):nono::D Also they said if you don't like the names of the CVFs then lobby your MPs.

Eagle and Hermes for me:D

I hope they do change the names of the CVF.. At least here in the US the new LHA class starts off with the name "America"

British soldiers with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) play with Afghan children during a patrol on the outskirts of Kabul on July 27, 2008. Britain has approximately 7,800 soldiers stationed in Afghanistan, most of whom are in Helmand, where the Islamist Taliban militia have been fighting a bloody insurgency since losing power in 2001. The death brings to 111 the number of British troops killed during operations in Afghanistan since 2001.

I think that the CVFs have pretty good names. The Prince of Wales is a bit cursed isn't it though?

It's better than the Gerald Ford.
