@airsuperiority -- lol maybe I wouldn't go quite that far, certainly I wouldn't "kick them when they're down" (that would make "us" as bad as "them").

I haven't read any articles from china "poking" at the british -- I feel they've been fairly muted on the riots? -- could you link to the china daily or other ones which supposedly do so?

Fellas, I would just ignore him if I were you. You all are making it hard for me to do just that with all those quoting lol.

As for the innocent victims of rioting and looting, past and present, chin up lads.... the worst is over.

You used a small incident to generalize and predict a 1.3 billion population AGAIN?! oh boy...
Actually if one was too think about it plawolf did the same thing based on his association with friends and classmates. In fact I wouldnt be surprised if the sampling figure was smaller.

true. or i should put it this way;
1. I'm from HK, so not only I won't really want to step on them, but to do that actually seem a lil bit odd for me at times. Of course criticism is another thing..
2. I really don't hate the British people actually, so with that in my mentality in my mind, I never felt my words were ever actually aimed as a weapon towards the British public. I don't like to link the responsible ones with the innocent ones, unlike some members...
3. the whole kick them when they're down, to me, is still referring to BBC and friends.
4. I have some friends currently in UK, so I wont go too far with my words, just in case..
if they hear about how I rant, they'll kick my ass certainly LOL. and they're chicks too. (one of them isn't afraid to speak her mind at anytime, so I kinda don't wanna piss her off) no I'm not whipped! it's just I know her personalities, so I know what to avoid lol.

oh yea here's the link

it got buried quite fast cuz u people were firing away like crazy.
and tbh, i think we should just leave bladerunner alone. this ain't the first time WE've debated with him.
we should remember how it usually turns out: thread closed. i can almost call this my prophecy if the debate heats up and goes on any further.

well i really doubt racist haters are ever a majority. most people are quite reasonable these days, although given a population like china's, it's quite expected that every sort of people will be proportionally more than others: if a country of 1.3 million has 1 thief, then China will have 1000 thieves.

Let's not feel guilty for serving crow. Did anyone die that they didn't care about in the first place? We know they're not as kind the other way around. They don't even acknowledge that Chinese civilian deaths occurred by their own very definition of terrorism during the Tibetan and Uighur unrest. Let me remind all that there have been journalists who gleefully point out that the American public did not give donations to the Sichuan earthquake unlike other disasters declaring how unimportant the lives of the Chinese people they're supposedly fighting for their human rights. And then on the other side of the ignorance coin I saw rock musician Kid Rock complain about anti-Americanism from countries Americans gave money to in recent natural disasters. What country is he talking about? Let's not forget how Sharon Stone said the Chinese deserved it. And the Chinese are suppose to be careful about what they say about the London riots where what innoncence is suffering? And remember this, the British were notorious for lying imprisoning the Irish in Northern Ireland on false charges. Oh like it's impossible for the British to ever lie.

I think the concerns about safety are not uncalled for, though I think the chinese government does have a sense of humour :p

Here's one from the Global Times.

Is there a revolution taking place in London?
Global Times | August 08, 2011 02:04

If it had happened somewhere else, the chaos would have been given a name, such as "chrysanthemum revolution." Instead, it was described as overnight violence followed by looting in local media.

Probably the only logic is since the chaos happened in the UK, the reaction to it by British media was more muted.

What happened in London on Saturday night had all the elements that stimulate the media: an allegedly unarmed man was killed by police, justice-seeking crowd, angry protestors, police vehicles set afire and confrontations between demonstrators and police.

No "oppression" took place of course, police were simply doing their duty. According to a statement from 10 Downing Street, the police and public faced "aggression," and the property damage that occurred was "unacceptable."

British media are neither deeply troubled by the ethnic tension in London, nor are they interested to guess the impact it will have on authorities.

No human rights organizations expressed their concerns about the conditions residents of north London are experiencing.

Pictures at the riot scene are used correctly, instead of showing the angry faces of people from an unknown place.

The British media duly pointed out that the place of the riots, Tottenham, is an economically deprived area where high unemployment has long been a plague. Rioters threw petrol bombs at police, but they are not "suppressed people yearning for their rights."

Since economic recovery is a long-term challenge to the British government, there is no need to worry that "economic growth might enlarge the income gap which could mean more unfairness for minorities."

Violence similar to that which London experienced at the weekend can be found in many other places, from Africa to China.

Not everybody benefits equally from economic growth, or suffers equally in an economic downturn. Dissatisfaction can be brewed, and a large confrontation may be triggered by a small event.

Authorities everywhere will rush to quell the situation from getting worse when in the same situation. Police would be dutifully at the scene to calm the situation and protect the public and property.

But there could seemingly never be a "revolution" in London. If there could be an explanation, perhaps it is that British media are overly worried by what happens outside the UK.
