Plumbers, electricians make a fair bit of money, provided it is your own PTY LTD company. An employee makes minimum / award wage, which is still decent but nowhere near 'comfortable' (my definition of comfortable is you can live a regular life without worrying about running out of money). That part about the trades wages and tradespeople being able to make decent wages also aligns with what I've gleamed so far from reading.
Granted it looks like Australia is not just handing out visas and what not like candy on halloween. Rarely will the stars ever align to be so lucky for anyone in this world. So that's not something to fret over or lose your rationality.
What are some of the tradesworkers Australia needs or likely will need in the years to come? What are the current trends or forecasts as far as construction or manufacturing goes for Australia. For that matter I just realized that I don't really know much about the blue collar world in Australia overall.
I heard that there's a decent amount of offshore oil drilling, but not as much as as Gulf of Mexico and there's not really all that much oil drilling on Australia dryland either, but there is a good amount of agriculture. But as far as industrialization of the economy there...yaaaaaaa I'm not going to pretend like I have the first clue here.
With this type of trade, as a sole trader / small company type of setup, as long as you have your trade certificates and insurances sorted out you have your foot in the industry, and the rest is up to you.
Oil & gas is harder to get into, as you'll need to apply to become an employee of one of the multinationals that carry out that sort of work. You will most likely live on site for long periods, and won't have the type of "if a job is too hard I can walk away from it" freedom that regular tradies can (albeit with some reputational damage).
Like the other posters said, do your research first, and make your move only when you're absolutely sure this is what you want.
Also, if you are expecting supermodels left right and center, you will be deeply and greatly disappointed.
