I guess people forget that miltiaries always copy each other. Like the danes copied the german flecktarn, the brits copied the MP28 in WW2 etc.Alright, guess it's my turn.
So, whenever I browse about Chinese firearms on various forums, there'll always be people who have to point out that the Chinese rip off other firearms.
Like how the QJY-201 allegedly ripped off the M249, or how the QBU-10 ripped off the Barrett.
I want to ask, is it okay for armed forces around the world to make clones/copies of other firearms?
Do people always just need to come up with an original design all the time?
I noticed that those militaries copied designs due to their needs for newer, better weapons.I guess people forget that miltiaries always copy each other. Like the danes copied the german flecktarn, the brits copied the MP28 in WW2 etc.
Well it's cheaper and more efficient than taking the time and resources to develop and equvilent of it.I noticed that those militaries copied designs due to their needs for newer, better weapons.
But this is the reason why this kind of stuck with me.
China's military and its industry is pretty advanced in various factors, plus they already have their own original weapon counterparts that work well on its own, such as the QJY-88 Machine gun and the CS/LR13 High-Caliber sniper rifle.
So that sparked a question for me: Why does China need to replicate Western weapons when they have their own weapons that are good enough and could be improved upon?
The QJY-201 uses 7.62x51mm. That is a rifle round. So if it ripped off anything it would have been the FN Minimini. So, whenever I browse about Chinese firearms on various forums, there'll always be people who have to point out that the Chinese rip off other firearms.

All countries have provisions in law where intellectual property rights can be ignored if it is for defense purposes.I want to ask, is it okay for armed forces around the world to make clones/copies of other firearms?
