You need to register them. It used to be wholly unregulated, but as people moved into big cities, the need to have guns greatly decreased.
I think border villages are exempted because they do play a major role in defending the border.
This comment on reddit doesn't seem credible, can anyone debunk it here or on reddit? I don't believe J-10 took '20 years to build' and how type 055 started from 1970s.

There's really no point in arguing with reddit people, even in /r/warcollege.
Not sure about the J10 but I've also heard about the type 055 having design documents from really far back although no proof of this to back it up. Even if true, I believe it's quite normal for countries to have designed something and never have it come to fruition till decades later, especially with China in the 1970s who didn't have much to do something as ambitious as that back then. Nothing to worry about.
There's talk on Chinese Internet about plans for a big ship (20k tons) that supposedly was an earlier version of 055, and that it was planned all the way I the 70s.
But it's pretty clear, that it would have no where near the specs and stuff it has today, if the plans were actually carried out.
So rather than plans for 055, it's more like, plans for a very big destroyer/cruiser existed in the PLAN all the way back in the 70s.
I'm collecting images of the Chinese tank Type 88 for modelling purposes. I have found a fair lot of images by googling 'type 88 Chinese tank' or 'ZTZ-88'. There are many fine photos but not all the dtails I would like to see are visible. Could anyone give me links of images, possibly close and detailed, from the Chinese web or other languages that are not included in my research on Google, please? And on other related types as 79, 80 and 85?
