Open AI is the Tesla of this generation. I’m sure Chinese companies will eventually catch up but it still begs the reason why there’s no Chinese Open AI despite all the AI talent. Got to think it has to do with the management mind set of state owned companies and the lack o strong start up scenes.

Open AI revenues are increasing day by day. Artificial intelligence will not only make other sectors efficient, but will also become a sector where there are big gains on its own. Every day more and more people will pay money for entertainment or to develop virtual friendships like in the movie "HER". The goal of Chinese artificial intelligence companies should be to generate revenue and develop consumer-oriented artificial intelligence.
Software is the weakest tech sector in China. Unless the ecosystem experiences a shakeup, already existing western implementations will be used simply due to training efficiency and legacy system compatibility. There is not enough incentive to replace what currently works and the overhead for developing indigenous alternatives are unappealing for companies. Kinda like how the whole semiconductor thing went.
This is dangerous technology.

OpenAI has already came out and said that it won't make it available to the public (yet?).
For now it is releasing it to redteamers ("safety", "ethics". ala censorship) and creators in order to get feedback on what features they need
However keep in mind that with OpenAI working with the US military, its not that far fetched to think that CIA has already gotten its hands on it
AI features on phones are still at its infancy, but some of these photo editing are pretty good already

The fake news firehose is about to become a fake news dam release. It can simply overwhelm the truth with social media bots reposting fake news that takes 10 seconds to make and weeks of investigation to correct if even possible.
