Chinese AI startup Baichuan AI secures $300 million investment from Alibaba, Tencent and Xiaomi

Since its establishment, the company has successively released four open-source large models, Baichuan-7B/13B and Baichuan2-7B/13B, which can be used for free in commercial applications, as well as two closed-source large models, Baichuan-53B and Baichuan2-53B. On average, it released a new large model every 28 days.

On September 25, it opened the Baichuan2-53B API interface, officially entering the B2B field.

Quite interesting news. After the exploring / tech research phase we are now entering the consolidation / engineering phase. China seems to have an edge in AI real-world practical applications in B2B realities, US is still in the "awe" phase.

Quite curious about the new US export restrictions on AI that should arrive this week...I'm quite dubious that they will be able to change the big picture substantially, especially after Huawei/SMIC proved that they can design and churn out 7nm chips in millions.

It's possible that Huawei was able to have their 7nm server chips mass produced first. We have seen new supercomputer centers powered by Huawei chips popping up in China as early as in Aug, 2022.

i mean kunpeng server chips have been around for several years. That's what powers all the Ascend data centers.

Same with the computing platform on Huawei cars. Using some variant of kunpeng chips

Today iFlyTek released Spark model 3.0, which it claims exceed ChatGPT in various performance metrics.

It has also announced the new computation platform 飞星一号 (flying star-1), which will be used to train Spark model 4.0 to catch up to GPT-4 by first half of 2024.

interesting point in there is that iFlyTek came to huawei after being put on entity list and that started this great cooperation where iFlyTek is one of the most committed users of Ascend platform

Now, huawei uses iFlyTek language/speech tech in all of its smart terminals around the world
