DeepSeek is profoundly changing lives in China and this is something unseen in modern Chinese history in tech landscape.

People in China finally understand the importance of GenAI.

It's amazing how Chinese adoption in 1 month has been more thorough than ChatGPT in American over 2+ years.

I feel bad for deepseek. Everyone left and right are using deepseek weights for free. They will get all the valuable data and perhaps also revenue. But deepseek will get nothing. It kinda reduces their potential for growth without all those gains.
Watch Liang WenFeng's interview in 2024.
His mission is to help kickstart the China ecosystem for AI innovation. Not to make huge profits.

Tsinghua team released DeepSeek version of multimodal biomedical model BioMedGPT-R1, and plans to open source it in the future

Based on BioMedGPT, Tsinghua University AIR and Shuimu Molecular launched BioMedGPT-R1, which updated the text base model currently used in BioMedGPT with the DeepSeek R1 distilled version model, thereby introducing better text reasoning capabilities

Valuable data, tooling and techniques all of which Chinese companies might not share with Deepseek and you can be 100% sure foreign companies wont.

Meta/Facebook is/have a huge revenue stream. Meta AI can reinforce and expend that revenue stream. Then what is Deepseek's revenue stream? How will it get more money to do more R&D to improve Deepseek?
That's exactly the question I've been asking. I don't know how Deepseek will benefit money wise from all this. I'm not sure they started it to grow and make money. If that's the case, I'm not sure what will be next for them, if they will continue growing their business in AI or other bigger Chinese AI companies will take over
