Jensen Huang Interview from 2 weeks ago.

1. He's not expecting AGI in the next 10 years, but really good models/agents at doing specific tasks
2. The next big thing is to build a foundational model (Cosmos) of the physical world with Newtonian physics. Then train agents/robots/machines with an infinite number of stories in an *Omniverse*

"I think, the next decade, intelligence, not for everything, but for some things, would basically become superhuman" - Jensen Huang - 50min

Personally, it does feel like that there is a Silicon Valley cult around AGI, with Sam Altman as its high priest.

Baidu should be dismantled and its search product sold off to a more competent company like Byte Dance or Huawei. It is the very definition of a rent seeking dinosaur, and unlike Alibaba which reinvented itself in the AI and data centers space (becoming more like the Amazon of China), Baidu cannot even approach a fraction of Google's success either in technology or in global reach. Recent data even indicates it is losing market share to Microsoft's Bing - one of the few domestic companies across any industry that is actively losing market share to foreign competition in China.

They can sell it to India.

That would be a blessing if China can free herself from Windows, Android and ChromeOS.
Yeah but the question is if it will be able to. Its really hard to achieve that giving the total dominance of these US tech giants who are well entrenched.

Lol I don't think Baidu ever got any single sucess outside China in the first place. They are a dying company and I'm sure the rate things are going they might go bankrupt as they lose the little market share in their own home market and their shares drop.

Baidu will reportedly launch its next-generation AI model in the second half of 2025, according to people familiar with the matter. Earlier it was reported that Ernie 5.0 will have multimodal capabilities, enabling it to process and convert different formats, including text, video, images, and audio.
The release of the model comes at a time of growing competition in China’s AI sector, especially from startup DeepSeek, which rose to prominence by launching an inference model that matched the performance of OpenAI’s GPT at a lower cost.

DeepSeek being integrated on various OEM phones and PCs. The dominance of DeepSeek models in China is complete.

This is quite interesting, especially for the speed of the process.

IMHO what we are witnessing is a kind of Android moment for Chinese AI.

This is a model Chinese companies know very well already because, apart from Huawei, all the other smartphone companies customize their OS on a semi-open Android.

The advantages in terms of efficiency are clear: base research and training is up to DS, customization and inference to all the others.

Here the bet of Chinese ecosystem is that:

1. DeepSeek keeps improving with relatively short cycles (say few months from one version to the next)

2. DeepSeek keeps the sources open, well documented and free to use

The fact that DS, differently from Android, is a fully 100% Chinese company, IMHO makes the "bet" more reliable. I would not be surprised if somehow big Chinese tech companies got assurance that the above points will be kept also in the future...otherwise this sudden jump on DS bandwagon with the implicit give up of homegrown efforts (with related many $$ of investments already done) is not so straightforward to explain.

This possible split of workload is critical and very strategical in a GPU poor reality like China today in 2025. That's why I'm inclined to guess that there is some form of orchestration going on behind the curtain....the amazing speed and breath of the process is a bit suspect.

I'm not Chinese, so I don't have the cultural background to read too much in that, but IMHO the careful pictured meeting between DS boss and China #2 Li Qiang bears some kind of sign for who can understand it.
