Baidu should be dismantled and its search product sold off to a more competent company like Byte Dance or Huawei. It is the very definition of a rent seeking dinosaur, and unlike Alibaba which reinvented itself in the AI and data centers space (becoming more like the Amazon of China), Baidu cannot even approach a fraction of Google's success either in technology or in global reach. Recent data even indicates it is losing market share to Microsoft's Bing - one of the few domestic companies across any industry that is actively losing market share to foreign competition in China.

Yeah. Plus I think China should go behind 100% on harmony OS adoption. All Chinese companies should be mandated to port their apps and services to Harmony OS by a certain dateline and support their rapid expansion globally. . Because relying on the good grace of US is really silly. Its likely they will do that this coming months. What if the US decides to ban DeepSeek on US operating system Android and IOS? there's nothing China can do. So people around the world won't be able to download DeepSeek from their phones. These are things they should think about
That would be a blessing if China can free herself from Windows, Android and ChromeOS.

Zhang Guoqing attended the French AI Action Summit and delivered a speech.

PARIS, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Zhang Guoqing, special representative of President Xi Jinping, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, attended the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Action Summit and delivered a speech in Paris on Feb. 10, local time.

Zhang Guoqing said AI has become an important driving force of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial change. China participates in the global governance of AI in a highly responsible manner. 2023, President Xi Jinping put forward the Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance Initiative, which puts forward China's proposal and contributes China's wisdom around the major issue of the times: “How to develop and govern AI”. In the face of the opportunities and challenges of AI development, the international community should join hands to advocate intelligence for good, deepen innovation and cooperation, strengthen inclusiveness and universality, and improve global governance. China is willing to work with other countries in the field of AI to promote development, protect security and share the fruits, and jointly build a community of human destiny. All parties are welcome to come to China to attend the Shanghai 2025 World Conference on Artificial Intelligence.
. . . . . .

During his stay in France, French President Emmanuel Macron met with Zhang Guoqing. Zhang conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings, saying that China is willing to work with France to implement the consensus of the two heads of state and promote greater development of China-France relations in the “new Jiazi”. Mr. Macron thanked President Xi Jinping for sending his special representative to France, saying that France adheres to strategic autonomy and is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with China to promote peaceful development and meet the challenges of the times.

Could I ask for your thoughts on the recent statements from US security and tech experts? They suggest that achieving AGI (or even ASI) within a few years could lead to the US establishing unparalleled global dominance.

Until recently, I was skeptical of such claims, but the rapid advancements over the past two years have made me reconsider.

Even if there's only a 0.01% chance that their predictions are accurate, the potential impact of such a breakthrough would be so monumental that it should warrant the allocation of all available resources toward this goal. From what I observe, China doesn’t seem to be demonstrating that level of commitment. What are your views on this?

Jensen Huang Interview from 2 weeks ago.

1. He's not expecting AGI in the next 10 years, but really good models/agents at doing specific tasks
2. The next big thing is to build a foundational model (Cosmos) of the physical world with Newtonian physics. Then train agents/robots/machines with an infinite number of stories in an *Omniverse*

"I think, the next decade, intelligence, not for everything, but for some things, would basically become superhuman" - Jensen Huang - 50min

Personally, it does feel like that there is a Silicon Valley cult around AGI, with Sam Altman as its high priest.

DeepSeek being integrated on various OEM phones and PCs. The dominance of DeepSeek models in China is complete.

A lot of people around me have switched to Deepseek Search. Finally a better alternative to Baidu.

天下苦百度久矣

With Deepseek's ubiquitous mobile device integration, maybe Baidu's salad days will be over soon. Well deserved!
