I'm actually not so sure about how much it is scaring chinese doctors though.
Since it's likely it can take off a lot of work pressure and boring repetitive jobs (document filing, help desk etc.), and at the same time, I don't think it's that likely that they will reduce number of employed doctors (likely got quotas etc.) and aren't they still missing doctors, nurses etc?
No neural network will be replacing doctors, you are correct. NNs are uninterpretable black box models and this is a deal breaker for medicine, they will be used as a supplement for doctors to help with routine work, provide a "third opinion", or analyse data like CT scans.
I would rather they be used to prevent garbage doctors from ruining people's lives. If the doctor makes a diagnosis that its different than the AI's diagnosis, it should be flagged for review from another doctor.
God knows how many garbage "here take your painkiller, everything is fine" doctors I have seen in my life. AI is more than welcome to sort them out
Yeah, there's a certain segment of doctors these days that don't really do anything more than just prescribe antibiotics or painkillers and calling it a day. Being one of those people whose lives were ruined by such a doctor (my mother had a lump on her chest that kept being misdiagnosed as an infection when it was actually cancer, leading to her death five years later), having AI act as another layer for diagnosis will hopefully cut down on such incidents.
Southeastern China’s Fujian Province launches AI computing center with computing power of 400P
Southeastern China’s Fujian Province unveiled Fujian Artificial Intelligence Computing Center and Fujian Artificial Intelligence Ecosystem Innovation Center at the Digital China Summit held in its capital city Fuzhou on April 26, according to Fujian Daily.
The center’s total computing power is expected to reach 400P, and the first phase will supply 105P, making it the first large-scale AI computing power cluster in southeastern China, reported Fujian Daily.
Located in Fuzhou’s Binhai New Town, the center was constructed by state-owned Fuzhou Electronics & Information Group. It will provide AI infrastructure to support the development of the AI ecosystem, accelerating the integration of AI with local industries.
The center has currently reached cooperation intentions with Fujian’s 170 companies and scientific research institutions, and signed computing power service agreements with 35 universities and enterprises. They include Xiamen University, Fuzhou University, Imperial Vision (帝视科技), Newland AIDC (新大陆), and Linewell (南威). The computing power demand hits up to 101.2P..
