Perhaps popeye can give more adequate view but isen't this quite old pic as there is one Midway class and two Forrestal class wich all are decommisoned in my knowlidge

Those pics are circa Persian Gulf war 1991.

The Iraqis had some credible anti-ship assets in the first gulf war (or second if you count the one between Iran-Iraq as no. 1), including FAC's, combatproven Mirage F-1's with Exocet's and helicopters with different ASM's. One 'Silkworm' is reported to have locked onto USS Missouri (yes, the battleship) but the RN Type 42 destroyer HMS Gloucester detected it and destroyed it in the air.

That's an old picture. Probaly from the Gulf War in '91. I see the Midway, 2 Forrestal and one possible Nimitz. But it could bee the Kennedy or America. An awesome force nevertheless. These type of "plubicity photos" are common when more than one battle group steam together.

Gollevainen is correct all the Forrestal class and Midway are decomissioned. The USN still has in it's possesion 4 decomissioned Forrestal class CV's. However they are in no condition to be re-activated.

Well MIGleader the rest of those battle groups escorts probaly just aren't the picture. Besides an single Tico or A/B can track hundreds of targets at a time.

bd, that probably is the whole cvbg. you can see a huge amount of ocean in this pic, and only the seven ships. three ticos can take on the entire iraqi navy.
