Well if the carrier is going to be old Varjaakki, its propaply limited to same numbers of Su-33, Ka-28s and Ka-31s as it is onboard Kuznetsov. This couse the takeoff instalations. But in totally chinese ship? who knows, does it have a catapult? If petend that it have, then im still firm believer on behalv of the Su-33 (or similar chinese derivate of the J-11), but maybe adding the Su-33KUB or Su-30MKK as attacker and maybe an even AWACS plane of some type?? I start believe in navalized J-10 only when i see it live in pic that isent PS

well, the chinese might not put so much missle equipment in the varyag, and instead make some more room for planes, letting the ship hold around 40.

im putting faith in the su-33kub. its a decent multirole plane. that way, you dont need the j-10s and jh-7's.

i dont think there is two engine j-10 yet.

Question. Besides helos which aircraft that has been suggested for use on the Varyag is in actual production? Does any one know?

Gollevainen. Is that the present air wing of the Kuznetsov? I thought they had Mig-29's? I'm confused. I better check that out.

Does anyone know the present production status of the Mig-29?

lets see, kutznev does hold su-33's. its the only carrier that operates them.
the mig-29 has made some export sucesses, but its not so popular a buy now.
russia has supplied some to venezyuela, given some to cuba, and then there are the ones to be used on the indian gorkie. they also just made the new tvc fulcrum.

people have suggested using the j-10 twin engine, but i think it will take to long. jh-7a? no way. way to weak. su-30? just get the su-33kub.

Su-33 is the one selected for the carrier due Sukhois better political situation...Both MiG-29K and Su-33 where tested onboard kuznetsov in the late 80's and the orginal airgroub would have cosinsted both planes...

This is one of the best internet site on soviet carriers...

Gollevainan, Thanks for posting that page on Russian CV's. Great pictures. I've been looking for something like that.

Thanks again! :)

wonderful site, althoguh i dont know why it calls the varyag and kutznev orels.

this is the path the plan should stich too. it would be easier, cheaper, and faster to refit varyag and put su-33's on board, rather than build you own carrier. the only exeption i would make is to fit an indegedous/ukrainian phased arrray radar on the vessel, and remove most of the ashm to make room for mor sukois.

Orel is a class of soviet naval aviation cruisers, intended to have 4 to the class. Of course we all know what happened there. The next gen nuclear soviet air craft carrier WAS laid down, but the design never finalized and the hull scrapped.

thats my point. the orels were suppoesed to be the dream carriers to hold 50+ planes. the kutznev and varyag are kutznev class.

no no no, Orel IS project 1143.5. The actually nomenclature of the next gen nuclear AC is unknown, at least to me. Kuznetsov is just a name laymen assigned to Orel because Kuznestov, or whatever you want to call it, was the first ship of the class.
