anatomy of an attack on Iran

Taking down the satellites is out of the reach of the Iranian's capability, that is without any doubt and question, they simply didn't have what it needs to take down a satellite.

However they might have the next best thing... to blind the satellite using dazzlers. I believe this is possible and not as difficult a task as shooting down a satellite. They could place many of these dazzlers near their military installations or all around their country.

It depends con the interception trajectory. With lead pursuit trajectory, the closing speed is not that high.

To dazzle/permanently blind a satellite a high-power laser beam is needed but I think Iran is (purportedly) fairly advanced in the field. That should be no problem. However a laser beam cannot be used if there is cloud cover/ the satellite is not in direct line of fire from the beam. This could narrow the window of attack for the Iranians greatly.

Perhaps not to permanently blind the enemy's satellite, just create a dazzling effect to confuse the enemy's satellite. That is possible, I believe. Plus Iran was more or less near deserts and cloud was not really alot, so it would be easier to achieve that effect.

I might be wrong though.

For what I know, taking down satellites it's not that difficult. Just because only two nations have shown that capability does not mean nobody else can do it.
A satellite is an space object with a fixed orbit, a fixed velocity, and above all it cannot evade incoming attacks nor has stealth feature.
Anyone who can put a satellite in the space has the potential capability to take it down. The easiest way is to employ a lead pursuit interception trajectory to reduce closing speed between the missile and the target.
If I'm Iranian commander in chief I would pursuit that capability immediately.
I think this is the true reason behind international treaty against the proliferation of ballistic missile tecnology.

Taking down ballistic missile is a total different level of difficulty.

Taking down a satellite requires decent space capabilities, if you think about it. If you want to strike a satellite in a certain orbit you must be able to launch a intercept warhead to the desired altitude. The targetting and tracking can only be done by nations with strong space programs.

As a said. They must rely on Russians and Chinese for coordinates.
Both these nations can search and track satellites.
Don't worry, satellites do not escape. You don't need real time updates like missile intercept.

Iran has already demostrated that they can put a satellite in to the desired orbit.

Iran is capable of producing locally an improved version of S-200 missile.

Now, just put these 2 things together. And you have a potential ASAT capability kept in secret.

Their space tech may not be that precise but nobody knows it.
I'm sure they can use this as a diplomatic card to deter any US military action.

I am pretty sure that their potential nuclear capability is a bigger deterence than an insubstantial missile defence system.

Israeli jets would have to fly through saudi airspace, ever wonder if they take action?if not send their jets to stop em,but wat if they ALERT Tehran???? Just like they did in 1998 Pakistan atomic testing scnerio?when Saudis alerted Islamabad just the 12 hours or so before we tested our atomic bomb?We had no AWACS no high tech air defence systems (we were embargoed....Just the saudi alert and Our RADARS tht picked up a un friendly F-16 flying close to our airspace)...yet Delhi was warned with MASSIVE NUCLEAR RETALIATION if such an moronic idea was tried.

Result was DELHI backout...n israeli jets were sent back.
