The US game is also laying off a lot of workers. Studios include EA, Sony, Microsoft, Riot, Unity. Almost 8000 this year alone.

I also think that they experienced a big surge in demand and subsequent revenue during covid when so many of us were stuck at home so we kept ourselves entertained with games, which isn't the case now. Combine that with the quality of some of their AAA title releases plus their drip feeding of content but charging triple AAA release prices consumers will vote with their wallet and stop paying for mediocrity. All of the franchises from UbiSoft and Blizzard I grew up with have gone down the gutter since those companies went hardcore corporate, and it reflects in my consumer spending. Oh and the whole movement to cash in using gacha or other gimmicky f2p mechanics, its going to take a while for the entertainment software industry to reach their equilibrium.

An alternative analysis of the decline in games companies:

Well to be fair he is quite entertaining when he is reviewing stuff compared to the usual crap that comes out recently on film. Honestly I find his critic more funny then the movies he is reviewing.
I would say he's the best movie reviewer on youtube. Not sure how valid his critiques of games and the gaming industry are because I'm not a gamer, but thought this might be interesting to those who are. He also writes novels and is producing a film of one of them. Anyway, that's all I've got for today. Go away now.

Jesus no, he produces awful content that whines about everything and tries to blame corporatism/woke-ism for everything. If you enjoy this sort of thing, fair enough, but it's really counter productive to anyone actually trying to understand why certain content fails.

But I realize I'm speaking to a wall here considering how hard it is to convince anyone in this thread that America isn't going to collapse tomorrow.

I mean this is literally just the mirror reflection of the Michael Pettises of the world who predict a Chinese collapse every 6 months, or how supposedly the Politburo controls everything and everywhere in PRC with no expression of art or individuality allowed.

New York Community Bancorp tumbles 40% and is halted as troubled bank reportedly seeking cash infusion

  • Reuters and The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that the bank was looking to outside investors for cash to shore up its balance sheet.
  • Shares of the bank were already down sharply the day before the reports.
  • A cash infusion would be the latest development in a turbulent start to the year for NYCB, which replaced its CEO last week.
Another 100+ billion $ bank about to fail. America is collapsing, just not tomorrow.

Speaking for myself, I don't expect the US to collapse anytime soon, from what I can tell there are many here who are doing well for themselves, or at a minimum living comfortably (upper) middle class lifestyles and that certainly would not be a favorable outcome. Clearly, the US creates opportunities for wealth and prosperity, otherwise we wouldn't be living and/or working here.

That being said, just because some of the population is doing well and headline numbers look looking great does not mean there are wide socioeconomic disparities that impact quality of life and standards of living for the many that get overlooked. It does not mean there aren't challenges, policy failures, corporate abuses/excesses that deprive workers of wealth and prosperity, etc thatlead to said disparities. It is fair to call out and critique those sore spots in the US economy, just like it is in the Chinese or another economy where its fashionable to levy such analysis.

If you’re under impression I’ve never been poor, think again. I immigrated to US as a teen and grew up with my father working as a pizza driver and my mother as a waitress to this day.

the uncomfortable truth that many Americans and foreigners don’t want to face is that US is an amazing place to live with enormous economic opportunity. The level of squalor and misery some people manage to live in is almost entirely down to their own choices.

Which is not to say that I am not sympathetic to the poor, having grown up poor myself, in a poor neighborhood, with similarly poor friends. It just means that when people complain about higher prices I understand the struggle, but I also recognize that these people rarely recognize when things become easier. It’s much more sexy to complain about all the difficulties in life than to overcome them.

It is also particularly annoying when I routinely vote for the party that seeks to expand healthcare, to increase welfare, and to make education better/more accessible.

But people like the Critical Drinker want to whine about how lazy people are and how social decay is caused by not discriminating against Gays or having a Native American in a Disney movie.
