"To solve inflation, let's pump more money into the system"

Did these people not attend econ 101?
They probably did, but they also probably think that given enough computing power they could manage the chaos.

Will the US take the economic pain now and let China become the world biggest economy, or will they just print money and keep the prestige of being the biggest economy for a couple of more years. Because who will listen to the number 2 economy in decline.

Biden and democrats are in serious trouble. Never get why Biden would keep Trump's worst policies in tact such as continuing useless sanctions against China.

They obviously thought that the Trump tariffs provided useful leverage against the Chinese.

The only action the US has taken against China in recent years that hasnt been a total self own or had more blowback than its worth is the semiconductor chokehold.... and even that remains to be seen in longer term if it will also backfire someday

I'm convinced that it's a really small short term win, but in the long term (2024-2025 and beyond) it's a loss, a big loss even.

The semiconductors ban is an own goal. They got a short term win at the expense of China technologically decoupling from the US in max 10 years

They'll pick the latter option, because they know if they don't, their debts will crush them, so gonna keep the inflation red hot. "Inflation is a great asset, what a SOB" - Biden

It's a massive win for China

Actually Chinese leaders have been trying to diversify away from western technology since Jiang Zemin but the private sector wasn't on board. Why rely on untested and inferior Chinese technology when you can import? It's only under comrade Xi's Made in China 2025 and Comrade Trump's ensuing sanctions that this became possible.
