I'm sorry to say this: it's been the US Navy which tried to amuse us with "revolutionary" carrier(s) for years, despite numerous warnings/recommendations coming from various sources for years, and it seems to me the US Navy tried to ignore those "nuisances" as much as it could for years (instead of requesting changes to the design); soon the US Navy will reap the benefits of this attitude, and, for now, I'll leave it at that.

Except the rest the more important is the size of the CVN Fleet, 11 CVN which have a service life of 50 years so USN need have a new every 4.5/5 years and with Ford we go for 8 years since the Bush in 2009...

I realized the extreme limit would be 2025 (50 years of the Nimitz (CVN-68), correct?), assuming the US Navy still under the waiver to operate ten carriers only:
10 U.S. Code § 5062 (b)

1/ Ford replace Enterprise retired in 2012 and Navy have 11 CVN and later new Kennedy replace Nimitz
2/ Even with more delay Ford commissioned for 2018/19 and these problems of aviation facilities, cats, AAG will not influence Kennedy's construction.:cool:

The Ford class is new. it is bringing SIGNIFICANT new technologies to the fore.

Yes, the schedule has slipped...that happens with new technologies.

Like with the F-22 and the F-35, yes they had their (and in some cases still have) their issues. but they are the most advanced most capable things out there.

The Ford class will be the same and they will be around for 50 or more years doing it.

I am fine with another delay of a few months...I know that once the Navy gets the ship it will be two or more years before it reaches operational capability. am fine with that and expected it.

She will be integrating new electronics, new radars, new propulsion, new electrical systems. new aircraft, new catapults, new arresting. The development of those policies and procedures, the testing and perfecting of them, the training of the crew to use them...all of that takes time and it is time well spent.

But when they do, yes indeed, the US Navy and its allies will reap the results...and they will be rich rewards indeed, and they will be the most advanced, most capable, and most powerful aircraft carriers available to anyone on earth..

Well said Jeff. The US have been, and will continue to be the innovators in naval platforms for the foreseeable future.

Just as a reminder, The Angled Deck, Steam Catapult, Mirror Landing Sight, Radar, The Aircraft Carrier itself, the Jet Engine, Digital Computers, STOVL Combat Aircraft, the Ski Jump Ramp to name but a few innovations from this side of the pond! Credit where credit is due. Respect to all.
