Ok by 2025 the navy will have 185 x F35B
They will have 8 x Wasp Class and 3 x America class
In light aircraft carrier mode the LHA can 16-20 x F35B
Because of no catapult and limited space the sortie rate is around 40 per day
America class costs $ 3 billion
USN Ford Class is $13 billion with 160 sorties per day
It would take 4 x LHA to match the sortie rate of a single supercarrier or $12 billion investment compared to the supercarrier of $13 billion
So a roughly $1 billion in saving
Advantages your assets are dispersed and you have flexibility of operations with 4 light carriers
Disadvantage you don’t have long range and endurance of a fully blown nuclear powered supercarrier, plus less situational awareness due to lack of fixed wing AWACS

.....and I'm still envious. This upcoming deployment reminds me of being aboard JFK in '72 & 72 when we made back to back MED cruises ...that was such FUN!...aaarrrvvv!
I grew up with the original late 60s era 'Cloudbase', inspired by the carriers of the day. The RN still had 5 CTOL carriers and STOVL ops were still just experimental. I loved the look of the Angel fighters and had several models when I was a kid:

Back to the present, At Pompey the 75th anniversary commemorations have been going on which included over 300 D-Day veterans from all the countries involved (all in their 90s now) sailing for Normandy aboard the chartered cruise liner MV Boudicca. As it sailed from Portsmouth's ferry terminal to the north of the Dockyard, they passed the Queen Elizabeth moored at the Princess Royal Jetty and her crew lined the deck to salute the veterans. Also on deck were the first sea lord, the nDefence Secretary Penny Mordaunt MP and the outgoing Prime Minister Theresa May MP:
