ATLANTIC OCEAN (Aug. 28, 2018) An F-35C Lightning II from the Rough Raiders of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 125 launches from the flight deck of the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Abraham Lincoln is underway with Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 12 conducting Operational Test-1 (OT1) for the F-35C Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. ATLANTIC OCEAN (Aug. 30, 2018) Aircraft from the Freedom Fighters of Carrier Air Wing 7 fly in formation above the Nimitz-class aircraft carriers USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75); the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mason (DDG 87) from Destroyer Squadron 2; the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Forrest Sherman (DDG 98) and USS Arleigh Burke (DDG 51) from Destroyer Squadron 28; and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Normandy (CG 60) while transiting the Atlantic Ocean. The USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group are participating in dual-carrier sustainment and qualification operations in the Atlantic Ocean. In addition to demonstrating the Navy's inherent flexibility and scalability, this evolution provides the opportunity to conduct complex, multi-unit training to enhance maritime interoperability and combat readiness, and prepare the Navy to protect our homeland and preserve and promote peace anywhere around the world. LOL!

QE was undertaking some other trials work in the Western Approaches before setting sail across the Atlantic. Her support tanker, RFA Tiderace, is still tied up in Port at present. QE is perfectly capable of crossing the Atlantic without fuelling but once Tiderace leaves we'll know she's not far off the US as Tiderace will likely be joining her for the flight trials after stores are loaded at Norfolk.

It's summer and they're probably chillaxing, catching a few rays, enjoying the cruise, keeping the ship clean and tidy and shiny for her first visit to the US! They'll be busy enough in the next few months...40389341_2048204355490076_8455031550428315648_n.jpg 40103494_1909933422379056_648851592853848064_n.jpg 40085245_1909933412379057_3259189143195877376_n.jpg

It's summer ...
just not to forget: I didn't get your post in the UK Thread Thursday at 7:59 PM
Not many people are aware that the now defunct Type 42 'Sheffield' Class DDGs had a secret capability which would have been a nasty surprise to the Soviet Navy in the North Atlantic had WW3 broken out; they were actually SSKs! Don't believe me? Here's one mid dive:View attachment 48615 Imagine one of these surfacing within spitting distance of a Kiev or the Kuznetzov! ;-)
is this a black humor?? or you were posting from a whiskey bar?? LOL
