The future USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is underway for its first set of sea trials, known as Builder's Sea Trials (BST). Builder's sea trials provide an opportunity to test systems, components and compartments at sea for the first time.

Over the next several days, CVN 78 Sailors, shipbuilders from Huntington Ingalls Industries - Newport News Shipbuilding (HII-NNS), the Navy's Supervisor of Shipbuilding and Naval Sea Systems Command personnel will be working side-by-side testing many of the ship's key systems and technologies.

"The Navy and our industry partners are excited to have the future USS Gerald R. Ford underway under her own power for the first time, executing a rigorous and comprehensive test program for this first-of-class ship," said Rear Adm. Brian Antonio, program executive officer for aircraft carriers. "This milestone is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, and we look forward to learning a great deal during sea trials. We will continue to work together to deliver Ford's critical capabilities to the fleet."

Don' t dance too my Friend :D with your new big toy :)

If all is ok for sea trials a date can be fixed for weeks few months for delivery ceremony in general severals month half of year maximum for DDGs, SSNs i see and commissionning for end of year, in service not before 2019 necessary officials trials by the owner USN procedures, training etc... different more long

But as i have posted if the need is there can ready much more fast as much think - same for all ships ofc, report are report, therory and practice... some journalists very few aware about it seems :rolleyes: - for pretty simple reasons no money problem and procedures get différents if really it is neccessary get the ships for combat missions;

By example : in 3 days rustic repair but combat ready and with her 2 brothers sunk 4 Japanese ! him also during this famous Battle.

One day ahead of schedule, on May 27, the Yorktown limped into Pearl Harbor. The next morning, after Nimitz had cut orders voiding the safety rule of spending a day purging her tanks of stored aviation fuel, the Yorktown eased into Drydock Number One

We must have this ship back in three days.”
– Adm. Chester W. Nimitz, Commander in Chief Pacific Fleet

Battle of Midway: Repairing the Yorktown After the Battle of the Coral Sea
Yard workers and sailors worked flat out over three days to get the carrier Yorktown patched up and ready for the decisive Midway battle
