Our daughter Mollie visited the Midway with her Marine, and was So IMPRESSED with the old girl, she said "DAD I wish you could have been here"
I know when Gail and I went to Corpus Christi last year and visited the LExington, I had the same feeling.

She is an old World War II Esex class. But as she is, if she were fixed up and modernized with newer cats and electronics, almost any Navy in the world would be able to make use of her...if they had aircraft to go woth her.

The modernized Essex class carriers served for many decades, and weere aable of launching decent jet aircraft.

Anyhow...wonderful ships and I am glad there are several of those Museum Ships around.

I have a thread on SD about them and where they are all located.

Here is is on my own site:

Replacing the Invincibles: inside the Royal Navy's controversial £6.2 billion warships
The Navy's Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers are almost ready for launch. But how does a 280-metre, 65,000-tonne warship actually work?

The Midway have 2 sisters hehe but yet our Sailor Man Popeye serve aboard in 1970's and it is the more big CV with Shinano build during WWII only CV Classes to have an armored flight deck with last British and the Japanese Taihō others Essex especialy only the 2nd deck floor of the hangar was armored.

In addition last not US super carriers Class so despite it is a big ship no comparison don' t have same capacities, less capable only 2 cats less powerful 75 m long, CAW more small don' t have F-14 but for get a 600 ships Navy and 15 CVs USN have keep up to 1991 and he take part to Desert Storm

USS Midway, CV-41
VFA-195 F/A-18 Hornet
VFA-151 F/A-18 Hornet
VFA-192 F/A-18 Hornet
VA-185 A-6E and KA-6D Intruder
VAW-115 E-2C Hawkeye
VAQ-136 EA-6B Prowler
HS-14 SH-3H Sea King

Others classes have in more a VFA 4 : 2 x F-14 and 2 x F-18/A-7, Kennedy have the last A-7 in service during this campaign retired just after and Midway was among the first to receive F-18s for compensate this inferior number of fighters also don't have VS with S-3s.
Exceptionnaly by ex Roosevelt during Desert Stormhave 6 combattants Sqns ! 4 VFA + 2 VA with A-6 about 70 combattants !
