anywayIf you consider two weeks or more soon... in the case of the USN as long as pilot error is not involved the pilot should be back on the flight schedule within a couple of weeks. I don't know how the Russian do things.

source is USNI NewsA combination of faults on Russia’s carrier and an unexpected total engine shutdown led to a Russian pilot ditching his fighter in the Mediterranean Sea last week, read a translation of a Monday Russian press report.
The Mikoyan MiG-29K for operations over Syria, USNI News reported last week.
Following the mission – armed reconnaissance runs over targets near Aleppo, USNI News understands — the fighters headed back to the carrier to land, .
“Upon completion of their flight missions, the fighters were returning to the aircraft carrier. In this situation, landings were to occur with an interval of three-to-four minutes,” read the translation.
“The first fighter landed without incident.”
However, the second fighter snapped one of the arresting wires during landing with the hook eventually catching on reserve arresting cable, the report said.
With the deck fouled from the cable break, the third MiG – which was on approach closely behind the second fighter – was told to circle back into a holding pattern while the crew of Admiral Kuznetsov cleared the deck for the next landing.
“While in the holding area, both of the fighter’s engines shut down,” read the translation.
“A preliminary explanation is that they were no longer receiving fuel. ln such situations, a fighter falls like a rock, and the pilot has only one option — to eject.”
NATO ships monitoring the carrier offered assistance that was declined by the Russians, a NATO official told USNI News last week.
Following last week’s crash, the Russians continued operating fighters from Admiral Kuznetsov and used planes from the carrier to strike targets held by rebels opposed to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced last week.
The Kremlin has attempted to improve Russian carrier aviation over the last few years after decades of atrophy.
“A few years ago there were stories they were largely contractors as pilots,” Eric Wertheim — — told USNI News on last week.
“They’ve been trying to pass that skill on but there’s not the ability to do that because the pool is small and they’re not a lot of facilities available.”
A land-based facility to train Russian naval aviators that was set to open in 2015 has been continually delayed.
The carrier – technically an aircraft carrying guided missile cruiser – is part of a four ship Russian naval force that deployed to the Eastern Mediterranean that includes cruiser Peter the Great and two Udaloy-class guided missile destroyers. The surface action group is also operating with one of Russia’s newest frigates — Admiral Grigorovich – .
As of Monday morning, the ships were operating south of Cyprus, a U.S. defense official told USNI News.

Russians Blame MiG-29K Crash on Broken Arrestor Cable, Catastrophic Engine Failure
I put intoI read in another forum that the Russians have zero ablity to repair & replace jet engines at sea.
...
I now read
there had been no engine failure involved, just arrestor failure: that Mig had to wait, and while running out of fuel, the pilot had to bail out (I repeat that's just something what I read!)
well, I was surprised to see, in a well known blog, the version contradicting the officialJura, my translation....only the persons involved really know what happened...
Heh! Heh! Heh! for all our gents who tell us the J-15 will depart the Liaoning with a "full combat load" and sufficient fuel for the mission,,,,, "it AIN'T Gonna Happen" these birds are very LIGHTLY loaded as they depart that Ramp, they likely do have fuel, but NOT MANY WEAPONS? no tankers, no fill up, just a couple of rockets on each side???
The J-15 is a veritable sister to the SU-33, may carry a little more, but its not gonna blow off that deck with a full load either, that's why "tanking" is going to be so very important..Take off with a load and "tank up" before heading to the combat zone!
That's why its important that the Chinese design and build a CATOBAR carrier, as to the Russians, sadly they are likely targeting the Syrian opposition to Asad, he's not a nice man, kind-of a male HRC, just mean. Just a further example of how the BHO/HRC team have mucked up life in the Arab world for everybody, no wonder people hate us????
Asif said they were carrying A2A??? what are they carrying for real????
So here we see the real weakness of the ramp, they launched with A2A missiles, and what they hoped was sufficient fuel for the mission. As I stated earlier, kind of a sham, with a light load, called an "armed recon", broken arrestor wire, and told to hold, and "BLAMO! Double Flameout!", just as I had surmised earlier "fuel exhaustion", ask any Naval Aviator what is the number one concern returning to the carrier??? that's it, "Cougar!, Cougar!, land this plane, we're on VAPOR COUGAR!"
So here we see the delicate balancing act, and the idea that the Mig-29K will carry more off the ramp than the Su-33,,, prolly won't hold water, eeerrr I mean fuel! Like I've said before, we can learn an awful lot from the movie, "Top Gun!". HeH! HeH!
Well he splashed one, but thank God he had somebody watching over him, and some buds in a Heli to pluck him out of the drink. LOL
scary how often I can call em isn't it???
