But USFFC has been silent on the Bush’s situation since the carrier left Norfolk Shipyard on July 23, not even taking the opportunity to cite the much-touted OFRP as a solution. Sources in the Navy said major meetings were held by Fleet Forces Command in late August to determine the way ahead for the Bush strike group, but no announcements have been made as to what decisions were reached.

USFFC, NAVSEA and Norfolk Naval Shipyard should have been in regular communication throughout the Bush’s overhaul period, sources said, and it is clear the deployment schedule was threatened months in advance of the overhaul’s completion. Suggestions that USFFC’s awareness of the Bush’s lengthening overhaul was insufficient to deal with the situation in a timely manner have not been denied, but officials declined numerous requests to discuss the situation.

The Bush has been at sea this fall undergoing training, and returned to Norfolk on Oct. 3 after about two weeks underway. According to a Navy source, the ship is still dealing with defects not completed during the overhaul. A major multi-week exercise, the Composite Training Unit Exercise, required to certify the readiness of the crews and equipment of the carrier, the air wing and the strike group’s surface combatants, still needs to be completed before the deployment can begin.

For the record, Navy officials will not comment on whether or not the carrier will deploy in time to relieve the Eisenhower without a gap in carrier coverage. Unofficially, sources said the Bush will likely deploy early in 2017, but no decision has been made on extending the Eisenhower.

Fot he Nimitz, which will be replaced by the JFK in a few years, the extended planned incremental availability time in port and dock is important.

Every US carrier goes through these planned periods where their systems are maintained and tested and new things are added. It's all a part of the plan.

Interesting but with my perfect English not completely easy to read  but fact is IIRC CVN are now normaly deployed for 7 months and with delay for Bush, Nimitz now also seems difficult Navy can do it but again possible for Bush but just.

Bush had left Norfolk the 01 Jun 2016 must be back for 01 Jan 2017 for a deployment of 7 month as planned so considering time for transit Bush must left Norfolk early december, that is playable.

On 7 months about 5 on station for true operationnal mission.

Possible reduced transit time, in general some stop in Allies countries etc... surely possible in max 3 weeks without repl ships except Supply class can move from Norfolk to the Gulf

Edit :
Norfolk to the Gulf 10300 mn
CVN don' t get to be refueled a big advantage over CV... but two refuelings for CG/DDGG to cruise speed have a range of 6000 and 4400 mn, Zumwalt i have 4500.

Other factor replenishment ships speed, for time transit can be forward deployed in more USN have 32 but if they are rattached to the TF have a cr speed of 15 kn 24 x 15 : 360 mn/day : 30 days Norfolk - Gulf

And you can see enormous advantage of one Fast Repl Ships a Supply class wich allow a TF to move about to + 5 kn !!! max 26 kn but on short distances.
20 kn x 24 : 480 mn/day considering 22 days Norfolk - Gulf.

Sweet, ofc not all wrong but GE curious ( GE : Google Earth ) a bit lazy here sometimes for type :)
I provide the screen shot you can see i don' t lie :) but 1100 mn of difference 20 % huge !!!

For transit Severomorsk - Syria : considering 5500 mn TF speed with tug... 10+ kn : 250 mn/day 22 days saying 20 days, 3 week.
