The INS Vikramaditya has past the Suez Canal and is now in the Red Sea heading towards the Gulf of Aden. She entered the Suez Canal about 5:30 AM local time. Its pretty early in the morning so i don't know if there will be any pictures.

...and here's her projected route over the next few days until she meets up with the other Indian Carrier, Viraat, and the two carriers perform joint maneuvers for several days. There will be some nice pics of that I am sure!

Turkish defence ministry published on december 26th a short note (albeit in turkish) where they declare SEDEF shipyards as the winners for the LPD tender the Turkish navy had..
That means that the selected design for the landing ship will be one similar to the Juan Carlos I and Canberra classes LHD. If it wasn't possible to reach an agreement, DESAN marine (who compete with a chinese Yuzhao class 071 LPD design) would be the second optin in this tender.

As soon as they lay the keel or start construction, I will put it on there.

The Juan Carlos design continues to show itself as a good export.

Turkey's Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) just announced via press release that it selected Sedef shipyard as winner of its LPD tender and that final contract negotiations with this shipyard can now begin. Sedef shipyard in Turkey offers a design based on Juan Carlos LHD under the collaboration with Spain's Navantia.

You beat me navyreco I was just about to post this good one!

Excellent news Turkey has been studying all opinions for a LHD and this one seems to be the best platforms for them

Really good news for Turkey they are on the verge of a huge naval build up and this flat top will benefit them hugely

I also hope they build two units this would give them a massive amphibious capability

Backed up by the two new LST and 8 new LCT they will form a great naval force

I've left the subject of the Juan Carlos , Cavour & Mistral class ships alone.. Why? I'm not happy that those ships are NOT built to military standards. Also that the crews are small. If a major fire ever breaks out on one of those ships whoa be unto those shipmates aboard. It will be hell. The crews are too small to fight a major fire or control a major damage control issue. I just hope that all those automated fire/damage control systems work in a real crisis. I really do. Trust me, automated systems will start to fail if a major damage control or fire issue arises.

Why are those modern Western LPDs not builts to military standards? I only knew that JDF vessels are built to civilian standards.
