Isn't a US carrier air wing made up of 4 squadrons of 12 to 16 F/A-18 Hornets/Super Hornets that's in total 48 to 64 fighters and if you add to that the helicopters, electronic warfare planes, AEW planes and transport planes. That's makes a total of about 90 planes. The Nimitz class can hold up to a maximum of 130 F/A-18's if needed.
Currently, many US Carrier air wings that deploy aboard the Nimitz class are made up of the following

12 x F/A-18F Superhornets
12 x F/A-18E Superhornets
12 x F/a-18E Superhornets
12 x F/A-C/D Hornets
4 x E/A-18G Growlers (or E/A-6B Prowlers)
4 x E-2C/D Hawkeyes
2 x C-2 Greyhounds
5 x SH-60 Seahawks

Or about 63 aircraft. This number can change, as can the composition, depending on the mission.

They are certainly capable of carrying more...and in any serious wartime scenario would probably carry closer to 80 aircraft.

Thanks that's very nice to know. Do you know the breakdown of the single and twin seat F/A-18's they got on board those ships ?

Look a little closer; the F/A-18Cs and Es are singleseat and the F/A-18Ds and Fs are two seaters. The F/A-18Gs (Growlers) are also two seaters

Correct that is, I think there is a YouTube video about Mistral Class and the captain clearly states we have a reduced manpower compared to a similar sized vessal because one main cost in operating a ship of this size is the crew, reduce the crew reduce the operating cost

Secondly the build cost is lower to comparible vessal because it is not built to militray standards, these two factors allow navy's like France and Spain to operate such ships which they otherwise could not afford

The policy at the forefront is disaster relief, Humaniteran, working with other allies and already having naval supremacy so they can justify thier builds

Then they can also add in naval warfare part by making as much of it automation as possible, so overall yes they do not meet militray standard naval ships quality but the choice is have 1 of them or 3 of these type

I also think the Turkish Navy is going to build the LHD at a Turkish shipyard with many Turkish company's getting share of the contacts so they might build it to militray standard they will enter into final negotiations now that the tender is finalised

Hey Asif do you know how many of these LHD Turkey is planning to build for its Navy?

Jeff I pointed out previously that some air wings are assigned as many as 19 helos and 5 E-2Cs. And CVW-5 aboard GW in Japan has access to 6 Growlers and a total of...30 helos..if need be..

130 hornets? that's a major fluster cluck in the making! Also you need helos to fly angel during launch so 130 hornets is not realistic scenario. I have also never seen a Nimitz class with 130 birds on board before. I mean it's technically possible however you will end up being less effective because you will have heck of a hard time to prep the birds, move them into place for launch etc since the entire hanger space and most of flight deck will be very confine. Also VERY dangerous when you have so many aircraft on deck! You increase the possibility of accidents happening exponentially especially during GQ or active combat.
