Are you sure that the QE II class is a STOBAR carrier and not a VSTOL carrier ? Because the F-35B doesn't need to land with arrestor wires and there is no tailhook on the planes either. Non of the schematics that i have seen of the QE II carriers shows arrestor systems.
Well...that is a very good point.
The QE will certainly have the Ski-Jump, so it is definitely not going to be Vertical Take-off.
The RN is also planning to do a short landing procedure, where the aircraft comes in with the aft nozzle partially deflected and they do a short landing roll, so it will not be vertical landing either for the fixed wing aircraft.
At the same time, I do not believe they plan any kind of true arresting systsem...though with the kind of procedure I just mentioned, they should have a barrier available just in case.
So, I do not categorized as VTOL becuase for the F-35Bs they do not plan to use vertical take-off or vertical landing.
At the same time, the arresting system will have no cables or hooks, but may have a barrier.
I think they are closer to STOBAR than VTOL, however the "BAR" part may not apply. So maybe they will be another hybrid...so maybe call it a:
STOLCAR for "Short Take-off and Landing Carrier"
