HMS Ark Royal, HMS Hermes and HMS Invincible were all carriers and also all capitol ships of the RN so I don’t see how QE being a capitol ship should take the names they are taking

I do not like these names and I do not like the Royal Family I don’t know why everyone outside UK loves them so much, Queen did not pay for these ships the Royal Family didn’t pay for these ships the UK tax payer did and since we paid for them we have a say in what they should be called, yes Royals attend the launching ceremony’s do what they have to do but use £6 billion of UK tax payer money and then stamp the name of the Royal Family eh no I don’t think so that’s not how it work

No carrier has been called after Royals name why in 2014 why now it’s not practical and I don’t like it simple as that once again the people who built the ship will vanish into obscurity and the name will live on which actually did nothing for the ship

Let me just say asif that I feel your pain, when several of us thought the next carrier might be the Obama, we were as disappointed as you are. I would only encourage you to take heart in the fact that that the UK is building two carriers and an airwing, having the hardware will keep the UK safe, and is an encouragement to the rest of us. Now that those here in the colonies have over-thrown the rule of King George, we don't want to come under the "crown" again, but it often seems as if our president thinks he is a Monark...... so, for you my brother, I am sorry that your lovely new aircraft carriers will wear names that are displeasing to you. I agree that the Ark Royal would be a great name for either carrier,,,,,and I only have ONE KING, whom I serve with loving devotion and admiration. I don't need another, so yes I do understand, sometimes things like this "stick in our craw", so be a good sailor asif, keep the pumps running brother and patch the holes, at least you have two beautiful vessels to fly the flag!

I have no issue in honoring Winston, In my opinion you could name flotilla's of Ships after him and he could carry it. I am just a little let down that there is no Royal Navy ship currently serving named in his honor. He was a friend to the US but he served the crown not the stars and stripes. there should be in my view a British ship named in his honor. just imagine the photo op The Uss Winston Churchill and the Hms Winston Churchill in formation. A Burke class destroyer and a Type 45 both named in honor of the same man.

Amen to every bit of that. That would be a sight to see.

IMHO, you are right too, I believe the Royal Navy should have long since named a vessel for him.

Here'a great pic of a Korean Carrier Battle Group with their Dokdo LHD.

Dokdo being escorted by two Se Jong the Great KDX III Aegis destroyers
and aslo by three Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin KDX II destroyers

I have great photo sets for both the DOkdo and the Se Jong the Great:

The South Koreans are steadily building uo a very strong blue-water Navy.

They have three of these Se Jong the Great AEGIS destroyers which are the most powerful AEGIS combatants afloat and are planning on building three more. They have six very strong KDX II destroyers and are planning on building an enhanced version.

They have the Dokdo, but are planning on building at least one, if not two more, and adding ski-jumps to them.

Very good stuff.

IMHO, the Se Jong the Great class, which the US and Lockheed helped South Korea develop, should have been the template for the Flight III Burkes

Great shots Jeff.
I gotta tell you, as an escort for their major/capitol ships, I am impressed with the three KDX III, Se Jong the Great DDGs.

More powerful than any other AEGIS vessel on earth...and we should have used the basic template for the Burke IIIs.

96 x Mk-41 VLS
32 x SKOR VLS
16 x Harpoon
21 x RAM

That's 165 guided missiles on that baby.

And with her 127mm DP main gun, her 30mm Goalkeeper CIWS, six torpedo tubes and the two helos, she makes for one whale of an AEGIS destroyer.

The US could easily have used that same hull design, gone with 128 Mk-41 VLS (or even maybe PVLS, though that would be a stretch), added the AMDR, made provisions for a Rail Gun, had the two helos, had one RAM and one Phalanx for CIWS, kept the six torpedo tubes, kept the two Mk-38 Mod 2 25mm auto cannons, and gone all electric.

Now THAT would be a Burke II to contend with.
