Is there a live stream of the event ?

On a personal note, I should attend the launch of Vladivostok, the First Mistral class LHD for Russia, on Tuesday and I'll try to record some videos.

I do not know if there is a live stream of the event today. I expect there will be of the actual Christening on November 9th.

I do expect some good press coverage today though and we will see numerous pictures and probably some videos later today or tomorrow.

Hey Jeff, let me ask you a hypothetical question if I may. During a fight with a submarine when a torpedo exploded (not directly) near one of these giant propellers would it still be working?

Well USN CVs don't always operate with all four screws turning. Many times just two. If a propeller was damaged she could still make a good speed . Now if a rudder was damaged it would be very difficult to maneuver.

Depends on lot of things. If a torpedo hit one of those propellers and detonated, it would probably ruin that propeller at least...but there are four and the vessel could keep going depending on the damage.

If the detonation penetrated the hull into the machinery spaces and caused larger destruction, fires and secondary explosions, it could stop the carrier.

But the nuclear carrier is FAST. If she has time to get up to max speed, which may be as high as 50 knots or more, she may outrin the torpedo. Aslo the US is developing counter torpedo torpedos to attack oncoming torpedos too.
