All those aircraft jammed in that hangar are a hindrance to safety. However this picture is better that most I've seen.

Hey! That's my pic they are using!

Here it is on my QE page at world-wirde aircraftcarriers:

I just realized it will have 3 arrestor wires (like on CdeG instead of the 4 on US CVNs)

actually the Ford class will have only three. USN CVN's these days have generally only three arresting wires configured..could be just the ships with the new arresting gear. check this link for more info..

Sue them Jeff, that plagiarism! They didn't ask for your permission.
No, I wouldn't do that. JUst glad to see it out there and wish now I had put a link to my site on it. Will do so in the future on others. The more info out there, the better in my estimation.

I think you mean it's a breach of copyright. Plagiarism is normally about poaching what someone writes. ;)

Jeff, you could just ask them to give you credit for it. No reason not to ask.

I may contact them by email and ask. It certainly couldn't hurt and may bring some more traiffc to

I've been surprised at its popularity. It has well over a million hits now. All these sites take a lot of time to keep up to date...but its interesting and fun.

Trying to keep up to date with CVF status really gives you headaches at times...

Now, in an extraordinary volte-face, the Ministry of Defence says the "cats and flaps" planes may well be cheaper but it would be too expensive to redesign a carrier – more than £1bn – to accommodate them. The ministry is thus faced with the prospect of renegotiating a deal with the US, reverting to its original plan – namely buying the short take-off and vertical landing version of the aircraft, even though it is acknowledged to be less effective and more expensive .
[...]
HMS Queen Elizabeth, the first carrier, will be mothballed immediately it is launched in 2016, according to existing plans. The second, HMS Prince of Wales, will be able to put to sea by 2020, but it is not known how many planes will be able to fly from it – nor what kind.

I don't understand:
-How Buying "more expensive jets" (F35B) is more cost effective than building both CVF as CATOBAR from scratch
-How the redesign for CATOBAR could cost £1bn !
-The logic behind "mothballed immediately" the first carrier

Unless of course the CVF program was launched for political reasons (rather than military)... in other words Gordon Brown "offering/ensuring" a few thousands jobs to Scottish shipyards first and foremost... and things like CATOBAR/STOBAR designs, airwings etc getting no priority at all.

In comparison, CdeG being built at Brest shipyard (instead of St Nazaire, again for political/jobs reasons) hence explaining its "short/limited" length is a trivial matter in the end...

If they revert back (again) to F-35B, the RN gonna have what? 6 operational F-35B by 2020? And the first "hull" will be scrapped?

That article makes no sense. Why would the RN build a CV then mothball it as soon as she's finished? Any inputs on this..Obi wan?

Wouldn't building the ship and mothballing it would make it more costly over the long run due to maintenance and updates too?
