Delft ..you are my new hero..being as old as I am..

Does this mean there is only one way for these Super Etendard aircraft to be launched?

Do you mean with the bridle attatched to the catapult shuttle? I would say yes.

BD Popeye, any idead on my above question ?

Seeing the two "tractors" at 0:13, I find it weird that they are still on the deck... Knowing a damaged jet was coming in to try a difficult landing I would have completely cleared the deck, what do you think BD Popeye ?

Joint Ops.
C2 Greyhound. The US Navy is using these planes to help freight transport between the CdG and the Hyeres naval base. The Greyhound is capable to take off the French aircraft carrier with 2 tons of load.

I would suggest that as the two tractors are parked outside the wingtip safety line they aren't considered to be 'in the way' or to pose a problem. The aircraft landing on would have to be significantly off course during the recovery to hit the tractors and would be a threat to the island and deck personnel in that case. At which point the tractors would be low on the list of priorities for the ship's crew!

I was told they used rope bridles worth at the time $17 that should be caught by a bridle catcher. Unfortunately the sea had removed the *** thing so every time they launched an aircraft they threw a bridle into the sea.

Those tow tractors are not in the way. On a US CV the tractors are generally on the bow during recovery. Also one or two would be aft of the island.

Thank for the info gents

Well with an incoming damaged jets, I would have thought anything on deck is potentially "in the way" and I expected the common procedure to be "clear everything off the deck"

But I guess Obi Wan is right... if it hits the tractors, it would likely hit the island as well...

BPC Dixmude, the third Mistral-class force projection and command vessel for the French Navy, has been delivered to the French defence procurement agency (DGA) three months ahead of the initial contract schedule. The DGA took formal delivery of the ship on 3 January 2012. This success is the result of outstanding cooperation between industry partners DCNS and STX France. The design, construction and testing of the vessel was conducted in close partnership with DGA and French Navy teams.
