ATLANTIC OCEAN, (Jan. 27, 2011) Shooters aboard the aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75) test a catapult capacity selector valve (CSV) calculator provided by the Office of Naval Research during flight operations. The CSV calculator is a personal digital assistant that would replace paper lookup tables and allow flight deck personnel to compute the proper settings for an aircraft carrier steam catapult. The device is being provided through the Tech Solutions program, a rapid-response technology development program that funds government laboratories to produce prototype solutions for problems identified by Sailors and Marines. Yeah, and the buttons seem awfully small for someone working them in a polar winter.
Why need it been done on deck. Why can't the aircraft tell the ship how heavy he is, how much fuel, ordnance he carries.
The ship can then calculate how to instruct the catapult installation.

Yeah, but is it sailor proof, lol? I don't see that thing lasting long on a flight deck, but I hope for the taxpayers sake I'm wrong.
They better keep some hard copy handy. Just sayin'

LAMO! Now that is funny!

Hopefully that gadget will be placed in a secure padded pouch so the gorilla like fingers of Aviation Boatswain Mates won't destroy that delicate instrument.

true...working on a flat top ain't the same as a woman using a handheld device scanning items for her bridal shower in a Target store.

What!!!??? Suppose that Turkish ship breaker decides to sell it to another country? It has happened in the past.

The shipbreaker does appear to be reptubale. Sad end for a great ship.:(

Sad News; HMS Invincible has been sold for scrap to a Turkish Shipbreaker. She'll be towed away in March:

Unbelievable...after what that vessel did for the UK, and the many brave sailors who made that possible. The UK should keep her and the others in reserve and then at least one or more should be set aside as a museum.

Seems like the UK is going to be deficient in decks and aircraft for a few years at least. What's the current plan to tide over to the QE?
