A Sino-US alliance, is that feasible?

Well, I don't have much time to teach someone how to find the fact, not just make up the story. I just quote what is said in Truman library, even Americans recognized that.

"At the end of September, there were reports which were sent out through the Government of India that statements that had been made to their representatives by Chinese officials that if we crossed the thirty-eighth parallel they would intervene.

Those were important matters to be considered, and they were considered; and on the 3rd of October, for instance, the Chinese Communist Foreign Minister [Chou En-lai] informed the Indian Ambassador [K.M. Pannikar], at Peiping [Beijing], that if the United States forces, or UN forces crossed the thirty-eighth parallel, China would send troops to the Korean frontier to defend North Korea.

That was a cryptic statement made by him. He said that this action would not be taken if only South Korean troops crossed the parallel."

If Chinese really wanted to "help" to unite their country, they could send troops in August into Korea to secure NK's logistic. The troops were available and that would change everything.

Actually PLA General Staff thought about that(mainly due to the reason they didn't want the war being dragged on) but political amtosphere didn't allow that to happen.

fishhead I don't know what is your background, but you don't seem to understand the ideological drive of China at that time. Also China doesn't forget its debts--North Korean support was a fact during the civil war.

I wouldn't use that one statement, supposedly conveyed to indians, then conveyed to americans, then recorded in the archive as sufficient evidence Chinese were not interested in supporting Kim Il Sung. Chou Enlai might have been misheard, or he might have wanted to bolster China's position of non-interference while realizing SK could never make the advance on its own, or he might have never said such a thing at all.

I know how much you wish America was your friend--after all they appear so consistent and so noble. Just don't forget, such appearance is their power, and they will always use this power to achieve their own aims.

In 1950 China was a devastated country. The civil war was unfinished, with KMT still dangerous in Taiwan. We did not want another war, and Kim Il Sung didn't ask our permission to invade. So we were not gonna unite Korea for him, but doesn't mean we'd have liked to see him perish either.

Thanks fishhead it's good link.

China should not ally with USA because there's dignity in conflict--Arabs understand that very well. There is no dignity to be ally with a people that do not have any heart to be your friend, that look down at you at the same time they fear you. China has vast resources, and a strong resolve to "be somebody". The present relationship with USA suits us just fine, and CCP is wise to keep it as such.

From that debate, we can see clearly even Americans don't have a unified and stable view of China, let alone how to deal with Chinese.

There is no clear idea today in US about China and the way of dealing with Chinese. Of course it's better for Americans to turn China into another Soviet Union, but they may find it overambitious.

Anyone concerned about Chinese security should read the book "Deepness in the Sky" by Vernor Vinge

The Chinese are represented in the book as "Qeng Ho", a future race that falls in struggle with "Emergents". The book is science fiction, but it contains a devastating revelation of a real side of American culture. It should be required reading in Chinese classrooms, the way "Animal Farm" is required in America's.

You need to watch your language i.e. wording...
