It is a blatant clone of the US Independence class LCS. A failed design.
If you are going to copy something at least copy a good ship.
It is about the size of Type 054A and way less capable and fuel guzzling. Sure it is fast, but it won't outrun a cruise missile or a drone.
Both are failed designs, yet you're criticizing the concept (for lack of defense) of a green water combatant, which is a different thing altogether.
Also, it isn't a copy and has more than the current world average in this class.
It has less SAM VLS cells than Type 054A and those miniguns seem incapable of properly shooting down at sea drones from that location.

LCS-2 did not fail owing to the basic hull geometry, which is the only commonality we can observe between the two. The main advantage of the trimaran design is to allow for a relatively large and stable flight deck on a relatively small hull, something that is very useful for anti-submarine warfare which would undoubtedly be the primary role for such a vessel in Chinese service, and also for general surveillance operations using both helicopters and unmanned aerial systems.

054a is a larger and dated design, which doesn't support quad-packed missiles.
Its engagement is tied to rather old-fashioned 3D PESA, illuminators throughput, and (very likely) still rather basic battle management system(no major redesign since 2000s, or rather that major redesign isn't called 054a anymore).
It can defend itself, but calling it superior based on number of boxes is the same as calling 17th-century galleons superior to 18th-century battleships. They carried lots of guns, yes.
It is also tied to a single helicopter "slot" with no significant space for surface/submersible drones to speak of.

It's at least unmanned so few gives a shit if it sinks. That's a huge improvement over LCS.
Plus like LCS it serves an unique role of bullying smaller nations. 1 or 2 of these can sink the whole Philippines navy, and so could a 054A, but these are fast af. It's role shouldn't be evaluated in terms of "normal" combat.
