ArsTechnica is reporting that the Long March 9 has been redesigned to follow the path SpaceX is taking with Starship. Apparently this was announced at the Zhuhai Air Show.

Based on its latest specifications, the Long March 9 rocket will have a fully reusable first stage powered by 30 YF-215 engines, which are full-flow staged combustion engines fueled by methane and liquid oxygen, each with a thrust of approximately 200 tons. By way of comparison, Starship's first stage is powered by 33 Raptor engines, also fueled with methane and liquid oxygen, each with a thrust of about 280 tons.

The new specifications also include a fully reusable configuration of the rocket, with an upper stage that looks eerily similar to Starship's second stage, complete with flaps in a similar location. According to a presentation at the airshow, China intends to fly this vehicle for the first time in 2033, nearly a decade from now.

All the people who mock Su-57 forget that:

1) F-35’s only real aerial kills are against drones.
2) F-22’s only real aerial kill is against a balloon.
3) J-20 has no real aerial kill.

At least Su-57 is rumored to have nailed enemy fourth gen during combat. If we go by the fanboy logic that only real combat counts then it is by far the most potent fifth gen.
I mean, a yak-9 is more combat proven, doesn’t mean it can compete with a modern fighter.

The PR would've been bad regardless of what was brought.

There is an enormous customer base for bashing Russia that would've found an angle to criticize Russia regardless of what Sukhoi brought. Even if there was a Su-57M on display, I'm sure someone, even in this thread, would've brought up some alleged defect regarding stealth treatments, rivets, rounded surfaces, or whatever.

That's just simply the way things are today, unfortunately.
Did Xi force Putin at gunpoint to bring an aircraft to this airshow? They shouldn't have brought anything rather than an aircraft that has such noticeable manufacturing defects. Every person who saw that video of is just laughing at the poor craftsmanship.

I think you missed my point.

Even if Putin brought a Su-57M in pristine condition, "you" would've found something to nitpick.
