Why would they bring such a rough looking aircraft for display? Even the random dude who filmed that video is pointing at joints that look rough. Why not bring a production unit which showcases the actual construction of production aircraft?

Outside of that, I think we are going to see some great displays at this years show!

Seriously, they could have just not provided anything and no one would have noticed. This just seems like bad PR.
Do you really need a serial aircraft for an acrobatic flight display?.

The PR would've been bad regardless of what was brought.

There is an enormous customer base for bashing Russia that would've found an angle to criticize Russia regardless of what Sukhoi brought. Even if there was a Su-57M on display, I'm sure someone, even in this thread, would've brought up some alleged defect regarding stealth treatments, rivets, rounded surfaces, or whatever.

That's just simply the way things are today, unfortunately.

And how many countries with their own 5th gen fighters are allied with countries that also have their own 5th gen designs?

Nobody is saying Su-57M has parity with J-20, that's some ultimate strawman.

It's presence in Zhuhai no matter how you spin it is still a signficant prestige for China - as of 2024 no other nation (besides Russia) can boast an airshow like this, with allied 5th gen designs flying alongside eachother.

All the people who mock Su-57 forget that:

1) F-35’s only real aerial kills are against drones.
2) F-22’s only real aerial kill is against a balloon.
3) J-20 has no real aerial kill.

At least Su-57 is rumored to have nailed enemy fourth gen during combat. If we go by the fanboy logic that only real combat counts then it is by far the most potent fifth gen.

I'm surprised that there is discussion about Su-57 appearing at Zhuhai to begin with.

There's nothing about the aircraft which is new which we will learn at Zhuhai, and appearing at the airshow is entirely reasonable, including as a prototype form.

My response has been "huh neat" and that's been about it. I can't see what else there is to really chew on.

This is why I hate fanboys.
