This whole Zhu Yi verbal abuse issue has been blown out of proportion by the Western Media, and especially the anti-China faction of SCMP. Off course they are idiot haters in China, a country of 1.4 billion. The Chinese government is censoring the abusive messages, as any responsible govt should do. Eileen Gu was right in saying that 90% of the comments for Zhu Yi were positive, and I believe her. The SCMP was also nitpicking about some odd negative comments from Weibo about her. I believe that most Chinese will be more forgiving to Zhu Yi, even if she is eventually not successful in the competition.

The West is very salty about the Eileen Gu saga. That's why they are clutching at straws, trying to portray the Chinese people as more vile than themselves. Well, they clearly are deluded. The West are far from innocent from abusing their athletes. Go check out those racist tweets against Marcus Rashford, Bukayo Saka, and Raheem Sterling after England lost out the final in Euro 2021. Or the racist verbal abuse on Mesut Ozil and Jerome Boateng after Germany was knocked out of the 2018 World Cup. What verbal abuse that is happening is China is no where near as ugly as what is happening in the West.

P.S.: I have a special disgust for SCMP because they often get quoted by the Western MSM. This is due to their relatively closer insight into China. They like to nitpick the flaws in Chinese societies and blow them out of proportion. Some of the SCMP are aligned with the HK Yellow camp. These prostitutes are just as, if not more racist towards the Chinese people, than many White racists, and they can never see their own racism. Those SCMP China-hater 'jounalists' are not journalists. They are actually presstitutes, and journo-whores to the West. I will verbally abuse them however I like.
Agree with everything you said. The west has distorted the whole thing and blown it out of proportion.. I think they want to present it as a cautionary tale of American athlete "defecting" to China lol. But did not explain the intricacies of the situation and paint Chinese netizens as overall abusive and unsupportive to their athletes when nothing can be further front the truth. Most comments on Chinese social media are positive and understanding of the athletes.

About the nitpicking part, I'm not sure. There were alot of likes for the negative comments initially at weibo that pushed them to the top. After it got the attention of weibo censors, they started deleting those and cctv even skip broadcasting Zhu's singles programing team event. Anyway, the whole situation is complicated and as you said the backlash isn't anything like the vile abuses we see in western social media.

Scmp is a mixed bag. As someone said before, it depends on the writer. The videos are usually pretty positive on china though.

1450 means Taiwanese internet trolls. The number refers to some document that listed official government funding for such groups.
Ah OK. Thanks..Yeah I had heard of DPP internet agents that spread lies on China. Didn't know there was an official name.

Short track speed skating has too many issues with disqualifications. It’s a lottery most of the time with crashes giving wins to people coming last place (e.g. Steven Bradbury in 2002). They need to have a more fair way to determine the winner. Maybe they should move to a competition with the skater with the best time wins like in speed skating. It can take away the lottery aspect of the sport.
