Yeah I watched the video. Her dad definitely has passion for china and Chinese culture. Shame zhu yi dun seem to speak much Chinese unlike Eileen.

Do you know why chinese netizens are attacking her? Is it something to do with her favoured status? My Chinese isn't perfect but I think some are saying she got the national team spot due to her dad.

We have to channel our inner Trump.

What did President Trump say? "We want winners! Losers are for the shithole countries!"

The Chinese are the same.

The Chinese want winners, and not people who land on their butt, even though she had a sexy butt, she still landed on her butt.

President Trump would have stripped her of her citizenship!

Trump 2024!

:p

I repectfully disagree. It's not Koreans, but Indians have the world's biggest inferiority complex.
YouTube is the 2nd most visited website on the Internet.
It's extremely rare to find a video, channel or comments from an actual Korean bashing China on YouTube.
On the other hand, there are countless Indian videos, channels or comments bashing China on YouTube.
Besides, sometimes Indians disguised themselves as Whites and East Asians on the Internet, which complicate matters.
Well, you would be surprised at how many there are in Korean. The anti-China sentiments are most prevalent in topics of politics, culture, and military. Also, in Korea, they have their own internet ecosystem. So those that you find in English on Youtube are merely a fraction of the real anti-China sentiment on Korean internet ecosystem. Not saying that those sentiment on the internet are an accurate representation of the sentiment of the Korean populace. But it is quite telling.

What's their beef with China? Is it because of the big bad boss See See Pee a.k.a. evil commies?

I think it's a real shame, this could be a positive story for both naturalised athletes and Chinese American scientists returning to China.

China has 1.4 billion population. There are a lot of jerks in absolute numbers even if they're just a tiny percentage of the population.

some people were asking why Eileen gu is being singled out when there are so many other Americans/Canadians who "defected" to team China. It got me wondering too. there so many naturalised players for the Chinese ice hockey teams for men and women. No one cared.

Nina zheng did it already in summer Olympics in heptathlon and made history.

but there was almost zero fanfare and controversy . Her brother will be playing for mens ice hockey team later.

Zhu yi , the figure skater born in US also representing China now. I actually think she looks more photogenic than Eileen.

And no one is making a fuss. Well at least in the west. some people on Weibo are attacking her, she just made a mistake and fell during her short program. Not sure why there are negative comments. Something to do with her famous scientist dad who worked in US? Anyway that's another story.

I guess American media is targeting Eileen gu cuz she is a threat for the gold so it means they lost an asset to China and it hurts. The others who "defected" aren't as big a medal threat. When it comes down to it, it's just about results and medals for them.
it's racial. The perpetual foreigner stereotype cuts both ways: they never really viewed Beverly Yi Zhu as a 'real murican' despite her paper so 'losing' her is A-OK. She was 'never theirs' to begin with.

it's also why they view it as A-OK for 100% full white males to play for China: their reasoning is, they're in it for the money, they're 'real muricans' already, we're in no danger of 'really' losing them. They'll be back.

But Eileen was born from white murican genes, yet was also Chinese, so she could go both ways. losing her cuts deep because it's a real choice she had.

Despite the constant smearing by foreign journalists, the Olympics athletes actually enjoy the strict protocols in Beijing to make the games safe for them so they can focus on their dreams to compete at highest level.
Cox said Beijing’s strict COVID restrictions had been a blessing after two years of upheaval. “I have to say, since I’ve been here, it’s the safest I’ve felt the whole international competition since we left home in November,“ she said.

“We’re having PCR tests every single day; the village is insanely clean. It feels really good that I can just come out here and do my job, which has been an absolute blessing.”
