Eileen Gu would qualify for team USA if she didn't change citizenship. In addition, she is famous in China and raking in ton of money from those commercial contracts. A top league athlete abandoned US citizen and played for other country is unacceptable.

Ms. Gu may identify as ethnic Chinese, but black and white America certainly would not agree.

I guess American media is targeting Eileen gu cuz she is a threat for the gold so it means they lost an asset to China and it hurts. The others who "defected" aren't as big a medal threat. When it comes down to it, it's just about results and medals for them.

Professor Zhu Songchun went back to China to take the position of Director of Institute of Artificial Intelligence at Peking University in 2020. I knew of Zhu Yi. I think she didn't make such headlines in the US (she was still covered by Chinese media) because her parents are both Chinese and her father obviously has a lot of passion for China.

Eileen Gu is just such a unique case. I think it'll be difficult to find another one with such a complete package.

Yeah I watched the video. Her dad definitely has passion for china and Chinese culture. Shame zhu yi dun seem to speak much Chinese unlike Eileen.

Do you know why chinese netizens are attacking her? Is it something to do with her favoured status? My Chinese isn't perfect but I think some are saying she got the national team spot due to her dad.

I think it's a real shame, this could be a positive story for both naturalised athletes and Chinese American scientists returning to China.
