Men's basketball too
The crappy state of the Chinese basketball team should make everyone realize what a generational talent that Yao Ming was. His career was cut short by injuries made worse by the fact that he was paired even more injury prone McGrady which put even more pressure on him.

Kyle Lowry said Yao Ming played one of the most dominant games he had ever seen.

When he was first inducted into the Hall of Fame, it seemed like fan service to me at the time, but now I see he was to China what Steve Nash was to Canada at the time. Truly deserving because he could elevate everyone around him.

And they talked about building a franchise around Yi Jianlian...

This is probably another thing we don't give enough credit to Yao Ming for.
He was very hardworking, good attitude. Worked hard to get stronger, adapt to the American-style of play, better conditioning, learning English, all while juggling the media attention and relations.

Yi Jianlian, although made fun of for his tryout against a chair, his worst attribute was that he did not work hard enough for the NBA.

Also want to give some credit to Wang Zhizhi and Mengke Bateer. Some articles I read feel like Wang Zhizhi was ahead of his time. He had a very good 3 point shot, and if he was in the NBA today, he would be highly valued. One scout said it was surprising that Dallas wasted him the way they did since they could have played him the same way as Nowitzki.

48hours and I am missing the games, still going through "cold turkey" I have never felt like that since Beijing 2008. I fear China will never host another games in my lifetime. I'm contemplating in having a holiday in China preferably during the winter at the first opportunity.
20 more years. One can only imagine how glorious a Shanghai Olympics will be. Worth sticking around and watch in metaverse.

The US broadcast of the opening and closing ceremonies were heavily edited. People try to spin it because of the low ratings. No, they just didn't want to see China's technological advancements that shocked them in 2008. That's what it comes down to. Of course Five Eyes wants a diplomatic boycott because their politicians don't want to see how much of a failure they are with their own countries. That's why they hate Eileen Gu. Whatever her motivation to represent China, on the surface it's saying China was a better option than the US which goes against a primary propaganda point of the West.
