These guys still don't get it. Unlike the Summer Olympics in 2008 when Beijing wants the world to see China's progress, the Winter Olympics in 2022 is for domestic audience telling people in China we have arrived and we are back at world stage on the top after 150 years of humiliation. What Westerners think and what MSM think is irrelevant.

Hearing some chatter within China the government and by extension Chinese media will distance themselves from Eileen Gu post this Olympics, similar to a Kawhi Leonard for Toronto Raptors kind of deal. At the end of the day she's returning to Stanford and won't be giving up her US citizenship, and her legality will always be an issue. She has just under 2 yrs left on her Chinese travel permit before she needs to formally decide, so a lot can happen in the meantime. I hope it's not the case case and she fully returns, but bookmarking this just in case.
It is good that they are preparing mainland Chinese for such scenario. If Eileen Gu does choose to represent the US, then it is also perfectly fine too. Of course, Eileen Gu would no longer enjoy the support and sponsors and money if she gave up her Chinese citizenship. That's why China has been asking the entertainment industry to declare the nationality so people couldn't pretend to be Chinese citizens and reap the benefits.
Minnesota folks would win all the medals. All they do for a third of a year is ice fishing.
